I want to get you started on anti-semitism. Can you explain why you believe critism of israel is antisemitic? I think your friend is entirely correct - and so too does the Jewish leading contender for the Democratic party nomination in the USA, whose relatives suffered in the holocaust, when he...
But there are huge differences both in economic philosophy and in geo-politics. The right wing of the labour have more in common with the Tories and lib dems. That is where their natural home lies.
I know, why not meet every year and call it a conference and then agree on policies, take a vote, and then agree to follow those policies even if you would prefer other policies because you accept democracy. That would be a fair way to deal with these issues.
Out of interesr I just took a look at the 1974 Labour Manifesto. I think to many on this board it would be described as unrealistic, too detailed, and hard left, just says how far the Overton Window has drifted rightwards.
Exactly. If being a "Moderate" and repeating the same-old neo-liberal policies of Thatcher and Blair is so attractive, they should try and inspire and recruit new labour members and get the Corbyn agenda amended democratically at conference. Alternatively, join the lib dems or tories
What? Many Indians are Muslims, so that doesnt make sense. Or was the caller impling Labour was biased against Hindus and Sikhs. Oh, by the way Corbyn is not racist to Jews or anyone else. He has consistently been one of the leading anti-racist campaigners in the UK for decades.
Its a good idea when absorbing media of any persuasion what their assumptions and prejudices might be bearing in mind who owns/runs them, then form your own view.
I know its like banging your head against a brick wall. Noam Chomsky was right in his book manufacturing consent describing the corporate media, to whom a lot of the people who contribute to this board are influenced by, "are effective and powerful ideological institutions that carry out a...
I dont accept your conception of where the political centre lies, Blair wasnt "centre", he was n`t any version of socialism, he was actually right wing, he praised and approved of Thatcher. There is a party already in existence called the liberal democrats which adheres to policies like Blairs...
Ok, does that mean you are opposed to all sub-groups within labour, with suggestions as to who you should support, such as Labour Friends of Israel or Progress, or is it just the left-wing ones you dont like.
Was the free broadband idea specifically sponsored by momentum and Im not sure why it...
I really dont understand. Clearly you have a problem with "momentum" a group in the labour party which I dont really know much about. Could you explain to me what are their specific policies that you oppose? You seem not to know. Im really curious because maybe I should be alarmed too.
Personally, assuming the government needs to tax at all - which is another debate - I would be prepared to pay whatever it takes for a completely free social care and health care system including free dentistry and eyes/glasses etc, probably administered at the local authority level rather than...
You havent really answered my question - what are the specific policies in the current labour program that momentum support that you have a problem with?
National Insurance is just an addtional, historical tax add-on that doesnt really any more relate to the reality of the costs of social security benefits and the NHS. I`d scrap it and just increase general taxation (assuming taxation is needed at all - but that is another debate). Its totally...
I have no idea what "Momentum" labour is to start with. I know pretty much bugger all about them. Anyway, I thought most of the labour manifesto pledges were pretty good, and apart from the later add on for womens pensions seemed costed.(not that I think they needed to do that, but that is an...
