It seemed to me that the ref was giving everything to Sutton. Toward the end we had a throw in and a Sutton player fouled our player, threw himself to the floor and waited for the whistle (which duly came). Every 50-50 seemed to go their way. Fair Albion challenges which the ref didn't give...
Exactly the type of striker we need. He could probably teach our young ones a few tricks. If he comes on a free and costs 100k a week and we can get 2-3 years out of him that's still only 15 million. That is a bargain.
I remember being at the Emirates when he scored this beauty (at 4:43)...
Yeah, I had the mesh repair done a couple of years back. In and out same day. As others have said it was about 6 weeks till I was back on the five-a-side pitch. It worked a treat though. I'd been carrying that tear for a couple of years - thought it was just a groin strain.
I've been advocating this method since VAR came in. It makes perfect sense. I've always thought that a balls width would be about right. Any overlap of the lines then it's onside. Any gap - it's off. Also means that the basic offside rule doesn't need to change for all the non-VAR competitions.
Personally I'd like to move towards what other sports have done:
1. Broadcast the ref mics (have reusable earpieces for the fans in the ground). This demystifies the whole process. The Australian footage is a great example.
2. Change the handball law (there's nothing wrong with VAR in this...
In the first wave we were seeing 20% death rates (i.e. 1000 people were dying per 5000 testing +ve).
The second wave death rate is only 0.5%-2% (compared to positive test results). This is consistent across Spain and France who are ahead of us in the curve.
At some point the focus shifted from...
I think the extra time is what is is and we just need to swallow that - I remember shouting "why are they being allowed to take this corner!" at the TV. Nonetheless we have to play to the whistle. Also, I think the handball was harsh as wee Maupay was just starting to jump in the air. I don't...
Connolly was not booked. When a yellow is rescinded the ref shows the card (to the previously booked player) and then does some kind of arm movement, a bit like a cricket umpire does, to indicate that the yellow is cancelled.
Ah OK - that explains the glossing over that it received. It should be like cricket though, shouldn't it? If in reviewing one thing they notice another then it should be corrected. Anything else is nonsense. If it's there in glorious technicolor for all to see then give the ref the...
Did anyone else think Connolly's overhead kick on 23 mins (just before the drinks break) was goalbound until it hit a Burnley arm. I thought it was handball in realtime. Ref seemed to give a goal kick and then blew up for drinks.
Commentary said that VAR were reviewing a potential handball...
You can't score from a dropped ball (in either goal) it's a corner or goal kick if it goes in "without touching at least two players".
The FA website appears to have been incorrectly editted when the law changed. The IFAB download at the bottom of the same (incorrect) page states in Law 8...
1. The first player to pick up the ball to take a throw in MUST take the throw. No lobbing it to a team mate after 20 seconds of fannying about.
2. Players can only 'protect' a ball if they have touched it. That'll sort out all that b*ll*ck$
3. 80 minute games with clock stopped for agreed...
If the game has stopped (as in Murray's peno last night) then it's not going to cause any significant delay is it? Maybe a minute or so. If the game is still in motion, I don't see any problem with the game carrying on (as it does in rugby) and the VAR speaking into the refs earpiece letting...
Stephens played the ball cleanly with the side of his foot. That incident still makes me so angry. Ramirez turns blind and swings his leg, if anything it was a foul on Stephens.
Back on topic - personally I think both incidents this weekend should have been yellow.
