This probably wouldn't work for some reason but I can't see the point of an uncontested drop ball. Why not just make it a free kick for that side, to cut out any confusion?

I suppose if it was to happen 25 yards from the opponents goal, a free kick would be a massive advantage.

Make it indirect?

A drop ball and being given metres of space to shoot, would arguably be as much of an advantage.

Well played by Maupay though :clap2:

I think you always want/need a striker who is a bit of a shit. Barnes was our previous, Andone was potentially a little over the top in this regard, I think Maupay gets it just right.

You can't score from a dropped ball (in either goal) it's a corner or goal kick if it goes in "without touching at least two players".

The FA website appears to have been incorrectly editted when the law changed. The IFAB download at the bottom of the same (incorrect) page states in Law 8:

2. Dropped ball
Procedure
• The ball is dropped for the defending team goalkeeper in their penalty area if, when play was stopped:
-the ball was in the penalty area or
-the last touch of the ball was in the penalty area
• In all other cases, the referee drops the ball for one player of the team that last touched the ball at the position where it last touched a player, an outside agent or, as outlined in Law 9.1, a match official
• All other players (of both teams) must remain at least 4 m (4.5 yds) from theball until it is in play
The ball is in play when it touches the ground.

Offences and sanctions

The ball is dropped again if it:
• touches a player before it touches the ground
• leaves the field of play after it touches the ground, without touching a player

If a dropped ball enters the goal without touching at least two players, play is restarted with:
• a goal kick if it enters the opponents’ goal
• a corner kick if it enters the team’s goal

Yep - thought that as soon as I posted it. Although a quick tap and shoot with the wall 10 yards away is still probably much preferable to a drop ball with the nearest player 4m away.

I wonder if we're looking for stikers with that extra determination and drive. If Maupay has that edge but can control it unlike Andone then would be a bonus I expect more often than not.

Also feel as if only Locadia had that same attitude he would have made it here with his other skills and versitility.

a galaxy far far away
Unsporting behaviour

He blatantly didn't understand the referees instructions. He thought he was allowed to compete for it.

Football should look at itself when that's a booking and a host of assaults from Chelsea go unpunished

Doffing a cap to Knocky, I saw Maupay described as ‘Le petit shitehouse’ somewhere...........[emoji23][emoji23][emoji23]
