Its the second or third piece I have done with Paul Barber and I can genuinely say each time he has come across a lot better than in the club's official comments. He also seems to be well received at various supporters clubs meetings he has been to.
I think most of what he says, however...
Seeing the other thread, he also explains why he does not regret the 'Fans not customers' comment and why the Albion often speaks like David Brent in official releases...
Interviewed Paul Barber late this afternoon (via email, he is at the Football League AGM with Tony Bloom).
Couldn't go into Poyet etc, understandably, but gave some quite detailed answers to questions about membership, listening to supporters, next season's playing budget and a few other bits...
That makes a lot of sense and probably explains why less top foreign talent appears to suffer the burn out of some British players rushed into the first team earlier.
I imagine there will be a tier above season ticket holder but below away season ticket holder which season ticket holders can pay to move into which will offer additional priority for away matches. The club won't introduce all this unless there is a way to make money above the odd £30 bottom...
Paul Barber thinks the take up will be about 200 people.
Did a bit on this HERE ages ago.
Not sure how people will be able to sit with others who don't buy an away season ticket but go to some games together.
The BBC carried a story today about the lack of playing time given to English players aged 21 or under in the Premier League. It is about 2.8 per cent of the total game minutes.
I did a blog on the stats at Brighton HERE and it works out as just 1.1 per cent.
Only Dunk, Forster-Caskey and...
The best comparison to look at for any real clues is probably the one Barber introduced at Spurs. It looks to have be along the lines of a free membership for season ticket holders but with the option to take up an away season ticket as well (as Barber has already confirmed is being looked at)...
There have been many, many worse lows than the current situation.
Whatever happens over the coming weeks this point in the Albion history is still higher than any time at Withdean. We know we have a club with a secure future. Everything else is temporary.
I say good luck to Palace. Their fans are no less deserving of success and financial stability than ours.
Spending this promotion cash sensibly could secure their financial future. I for one would rather still have a rival to play in the coming years than watch them waste all their cash, stick...
Some people don't like Paul Barber. That is obvious. What is more clear though is that the only person who needs to like him is Tony Bloom. And his judgement is OK by me.
I genuinely wonder who some fans think they are. Demanding our owner make a statement justifying/making clear his confidence...
I don't understand the need for Bloom to defend Barber. Isn't it obvious he has complete confidence in him? He gave him the job, supports his mayor decisions and is happy leaving the day to day running of the club in his hands.
If Bloom is unhappy with him, he will deal with him. Don't...
