I went to that - 23,748 there. I dropped my coat on the East Terrace and sent coins tumbling down the terrace. Some honest folks in there that day, some less so!
My earliest memories were probably Hillingdon Borough, Leatherhead, Walton & Hersham and Chelsea from the 70s.
I don’t get the dislike of Newcastle, I quite like the fact that they are a one club town and that their fans can hardly be described as glory hunters! If they won something at some point, I wouldn’t begrudge it them at all. Their fans have more than put in a shift over the years and have...
Here are 2 more graphs for you, just to dispel the myth that Villa’s path to glory gives us all hope. Incredible really, they are being bankrolled as much as anyone, yet some seem to think they are managed in some beautiful way to give us all hope that the little guy can still win. They are...
They have spent net northwards of £400m in the last few seasons, including the Greasy money. I believe they are second on the list of losses for all English clubs in the last decade (edit - see chart below, they are actually the club with MOST losses over that period), including all of the...
It’s very sad when finishing 10th means more than winning the FA Cup. In 25 years no one will care if Albion were 8th, 10th, 15th whatever. But they will care that the club won a major trophy.
It’s definitely being shown live here:

Me too. Both my grandfathers were Villa supporters, those games in 71/2 and 72/3 were big games for me at the time. I definitely went to the one in 72/3, but I don’t think I did the first one (but as I was only 6 my memory is hazy on that!).
True. Though you’d have to be well over a hundred to remember most of it and 50-ish for the rest.
Pre 1920 - 6 FA Cups, 6 League titles
Since 1920 - 1 FA Cup (1957), 1 League title (1981), 1 European Cup (1982), 5 League Cups.
So 8 trophies in more than 100 years. Hardly dominant.
That interview Gerrard gave with the ‘don’t ask stupid questions then’ answer shows that he is not the most honest and scrupulous gentleman around. He would say, potentially, that he does what it tastes to win. Let’s see.
The Villa fans are likely out there debating whether Lamptey and Bissouma are really worth the money just to warm the bench. And how Watkins and Mbappe will feed off each other.
On radio WM they have a nightly football phone in at 6pm. I sometimes listen (on line) as I have a lot of family...
I haven’t been to the Hawthorns since Halfords Lane station has been built, it was always a potentially dangerous walk down to Smethwick Rolfe Street in former times! My mum was from near there and even she was surprised at the ‘changes’ to the area over the years!
