I also think the ICC were to slow to adopt new full members. A lot of momentum was lost this way and it doesn't help that now associate nations have no desire to attain test status anymore (except Ireland) so they'll focus on ODIs and T20.

I think he was overplayed quite heavily too. Was often thrown in when he wasn't fully fit which didn't help and in some games the plan seemed to be give the ball to Lamptey and see what he can do (Villa 3-0 away anyone?).

Yeah unfortunately, the take up of the sport by 'native' has had a huge decrease where it now is slowly increasing again. It used to be a sport where people would play football in the winter and cricket in the summer, but most choose to just take a few months off sport.
