    South Downs: England's Mountains Green

Sorry- your point must have subconsciously lodged in my mind....

    South Downs: England's Mountains Green

I quite enjoyed it, but you are nevertheless correct - three separate panning shots must have been used about seven or eight times each, giving the impression of a lot of repetition. Maybe they should have done three or four episodes (I know I'm being greedy), concentrating on different aspects...

WHC X Anniversary Sporcle Quiz Extravaganza

I actually got 57 and ran out of time. Even more challenging than naming all the Priestfield era players...

WHC X Anniversary Sporcle Quiz Extravaganza

Well Matt, since you very generously play my quizzes, I'll give it a go. I'm guessing I'll get around 20...,

Very, very sad news. RIP Paul - a great player for us in a troubled era.

    [Music] The Live Music thread

If that's the same Polytechnic who released a single called Won't You Come Around (or something similar) on Transgressive about 10 years ago, then I'm familiar with their oeuvre. Was it a new track?

Indietracks Festival / all things C86 and indiepop!

Yes, the 1987 gig was at ULU, supported by Talulah Gosh, The Wigs and North of Cornwallis. Didn't know where the Bizarro gig was though - until I just looked it up using your link: 1st or 2nd November 1989 at Kilburn. I particularly remember details of the 1987 gig because (a) it was my...

Indietracks Festival / all things C86 and indiepop!

I saw them on May 15th 1987, then on the Bizarro tour after that (can't remember where - Kilburn or T&C maybe?). Not sure I went to the official George Best tour.

Enjoying the Rose Elinor Dougall album - seen some lukewarm reviews, but it's very easy on the ear. AND available in clear vinyl edition.

Agree with the low cal - nasty stuff.

Really? From what I've read, Schweppes is highly regarded amongst "mixologists". It all depends on what tastes best to you. I find Fever Tree a little sweet.

    Gin drinkers

I think that gins are quite subjective and therefore there is no real consensus as to what is the "best" gin. Personally, I'm fairly ambivalent between Gordon's and, say, a more expensive one like Sipsmith, although Sipsmith is a bit nicer. Do not like Bombay Sapphire at all. Current favourite...

    [Music] Albums Thread - 2017

I did the bespoke route - wanted snug fits for my records and the right proportion of shelving between the different sizes. It wasn't that expensive (MDF, which we painted), plus the room has alcoves in it so I was able to use all the space efficiently. I went for a turntable that included...

    [Music] Albums Thread - 2017

I'll give this a go. Thought their last album was about a six out of ten, but the standouts were worth hearing; hoping for some good highlights. Like most of my hipster NSC chums, I'm going to try to go vinyl-only this year. However, I'm finding it gives me all sort of quandaries - should I go...

[Misc] What Book are you Currently Reading?

I think that's part of the attraction - an ending that's not really an ending. Like a cross between Kafka and Ballard. I should check out his other stuff.

[Misc] What Book are you Currently Reading?

I agree it wasn't the best year, but Satin Island is very entertaining - as a fellow office worker with exposure to consultants, it's worth a read, if you haven't already.

[Misc] What Book are you Currently Reading?

I have no problem abandoning a book. Last time I did it, it was with a fellow Booker Prize shortlist book A Little Life. Just too much.
