    [Politics] Russia invades Ukraine (24/02/2022)

Closer parallels are surely with Crimea in 2014 - sanctions were imposed by the US, EU and many other countries including the U.K. Made no difference at all, practically speaking Crimea is now part of Russia.

    [Finance] Private pension withdrawal

I’m waiting to see whether my IFA was right or not, when all this Ukraine business started they advised to move my fund from various investments on the Aviva Platform into a cash account - all done last week, much lower potential growth but no danger of a loss. No charges for doing this but...

[Albion] Consistent flow of fans leaving early every game

Don’t know where the OP got the info but it is freely available on the club site. Brighton fans, on average, live 35 miles from the American Express Community Stadium (the Premier League average is 56 miles)...

    [Albion] Spurs ticket fiasco.

You’d think, but no. Season ticket can’t apparently be reactivated but as others have said the original print at home ticket remains valid.

[Other Sport] Winter Olympics in Beijing 2022

The rules don’t allow stones in the “guard area” to be taken out until after the 6th stone has been delivered - if they are they have to be replaced.

[Sussex] A bit brisk tomorrow... *** Met Office RED weather warning ***

You need to speak to your insurers - tough as it may sound it’s not your neighbours problem. One of our tress fell on the neighbours house during the storm of ‘87. They tried to claim from us for the damage caused but failed as they could not show that the tree was in a dangerous condition...

[News] Prince Andrew interviewed about allegations

The politicians don’t currently control the powers that the monarchy retain but never use except by “request” of the government. For example, the power to dissolve Parliament, the power to veto Bills passed by Parliament, ratification of treaties, inviting political parties to form a government...

No but any replacement certainly would be.

[News] Prince Andrew interviewed about allegations

You forget the most valuable aspect of a constitutional monarchy - it prevents the politicians controlling yet another level of government.

[News] Prince Andrew interviewed about allegations

I can’t see any way that our politicians would ever vote for a ceremonial head of state to replace the monarchy. Far too big an opportunity to grab even more political power.

[News] Prince Andrew interviewed about allegations

That seems a bit illogical - if the British PM costs more than the French one then it surely suggests that a British presidency will also cost more than a French one - certainly doesn’t suggest it will cost less. ???

[News] Prince Andrew interviewed about allegations

Apart from whether or not we need yet another level of political governance there would be be a whole new organisational department to staff. The Sovereign Grant for 20/21 was £86m of which more than half was spent on property maintenance. The expenses for Macron in the same period was well...

[News] Prince Andrew interviewed about allegations

Isn’t the pertinent question, does the Queen cost more than a President would? I suspect not.

[Albion] So, was it a red?

No one seems to mention our players in the “refs face” All players reacting like this should receive yellow cards - just as they would in rugby league.

[Albion] So, was it a red?

The point is that Elanga would have been far closer to the ball had he not been pulled back. Webster would have got nowhere near him before he had a clear shot. Stupid challenge. https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/12543084/should-dunk-have-seen-red

[Misc] Priest's baptisms declared invalid due to his changing one word

Maybe they're like me, educated, (indoctrinated), at religious schools. Learnt the Catechism by the age of 8, morning prayers and chapel services together with the mandatory RE lessons - the more I learnt the more I realised what rubbish it all is.
