It's not a case of packing your midfield, it is making best use of the players available. A 3 in the middle provides plenty of options both going forward and in defence, not to mention the ability to play between the lines. There is a reason the best sides in the world play it.

But surely it depends on the players you have. Currently our strongest position is central midfield, why limit that to 2 at a time?
