That's not quite true. Might be for you and me, but many many football fans around the world are fans of individual players and follow them not the clubs (eg Mitoma, Ronaldo etc). These teams will gain followers whilst their favourite is playing there.
I'm slightly lost about all this Saudi money. They seem to be buying a LOT of Chelsea players for big fees. I assume this is entirely to help them reduce their wage bill and keep them within FFP this year and generate funds for buying new players after the end of this month, when the new FFP...

No. But we would have asked the club the player is registered with if we could have the discussion, wouldn't we? Thems the rules.
