Having been involved in the development of a few large renewable energy projects and with environmental/conservation matters for over 30 years, I would like to share some of my observations/conclusions. My own opinions of course, but I hope based on fact or real experience rather than the...
Super sub who stood out because he had or was studying for a history degree. Unusual at the time. A name amongst a cluster that were part of a fantasty time in our history.
Best wishes Giles.
On a positive note, the subject of this thread shows how far, thankfully, we have come in football and society. Memories of the NF handing out leaflets at the north stand turnstiles whilst standing next to the OB, chants of ‘there ain’t no black in the union jack’, monkey chants etc. Not sure...
In Rwanda (Sorry Clamp) they have a voluntary community day every last Saturday in the month. 90% of people participate and they pick up litter, weed the verges and help the elderly and infirm. Rwanda is the cleanest country I’ve ever come across. It is also very poor with 85% of the population...
I think this is fair comment. I suspect the amount of glyphosate that Brighton would use in a year where truly necessary (eg on pavements) would be less than one ‘regenerative’ farm would use in a season.
The risk is indeed ‘unproven’ but the links are considered very concerning across the globe. It is in the interest of multi national business to downplay the risk via financing their own supposedly ‘independent’ research. The problem is that we won’t know the reality until many years henceforth...
There is a new movement in British agriculture, promoted by DEFRA, with the attractive name Regenerative Farming. It claims to be environmentally sound but is 100% dependent on the regular use of glyphosate on every single field regardless of the crop grown (not inc grassland). Naturally this is...
It does seem ironic that we want to offload asylum seekers to one country and then take some back from the same country. Another reason why the whole policy is a total sham.
To end on a less contentious ‘how far we have come’ note….. I have yet to meet a Rwandan who doesn’t support Man U, Arsenal or Chelsea. But they all know and genuinely admire Brighton and our set up Can you imagine that not so long ago?!
You continue to miss the point. These incidents are caused by rebels crossing the border intent on continuing the genocide and destroying the peace of Rwanda. Rwandan society is how I have described it. Do you say our society is unsafe because of terrorist attacks in the Uk?
Just to be clear, I am 100% against our gov’s Rwanda policy. My gripe is that Rwanda as a country and people are being tarnished by default. Rwanda is very safe for visitors and for people’s day to day life. The security/safety risks come from rebel incursions from Congo and Burundi and there...
They are in exile because they were perpetrators of murder during the genocide and went over the border to escape justice. Many of those are part of various rebel groups who have the sole aim of repeating the genocide.
FYI interest, ‘justice’ took the form of prison but could be sentences were...
With respect, have you ever been to Rwanda or do you know any Rwandans?
This is a country that was ripped apart by Genocide only 30 years ago. 1million people were murdered in 100 days. Yet it is a country that has come together with huge optimism and forgiveness whilst of course the wounds...
I wasn’t aware that we take Rwandan asylum seekers. Is that theoretical or in practice? Not sure why a Rwandan would need asylum though.
I guess, as you suggest, the motivation for Rwanda is financial and very clever of them if they don’t end up taking any. We talk so much about how the policy...
