I would have the ref check every penalty decision he gives without chatting to VAR, just as a matter of protocol.
And i would have the VAR people be a completely different group of people to the onfield refs, which should mean they'll be less influenced by their opinion.
Usually on my own away from home, at home I often drag my dad along although we've worked out that we haven't seen Brighton win together since February 2016 in the championship. The only two home games i went to on my own in that time we won. So I might ditch him :p
Wasnt that situation one where the ref was called to the screen by VAR who thought it was a penalty, but whilst watching the replay the ref spotted a foul on a brighton player in the build-up so rejected the penalty claim.
If I'm right that wasnt really a case of sticking with his original decision
I like refs who let things go, who allow strong challenges and don't blow up when people go over easily. A ref can let a game flow like that if he wants, but then VAR can come in and say 'we don't want you reffing like that, that's a foul'. I think that's where the subjectivity comes in, it's...
Yeah, I'm not going to die on this hill, but i thought this was a physical game, Endo just collapses on the merest contact. Ref could have given a foul and no one complains really, but he decided to play on so i don't think it needs to be re-refereed.
Still ref did have a big think about it...
I think if it was the critical challenge in a penalty, fine, overrule. But it was just in the buildup, it was hardly a blatant error, it's just VAR intervening where it didn't need to.
I don't accept the premise, if Mitoma is fit enough he should play, because hes our best player. And if he's playing, it's because he's fit enough.
Also, whose advice are you quoting? Would be amazed if it came from inside the club. If you're quoting Japanese sources, of course they would...
I'm pretty sure RDZ's ability is fantastic. Mitoma is an amazing physical specimen, he's played almost 90 minutes of every game since he joined us and last months injury was the first he'd had, and one he's got over very quickly. I'm not at all surprised that he's ahead of schedule on his recovery.
I thought he looked fresh and lively on Wednesday, almost back to his best. I didn't see any concerns that suggest he should have been taken off, looked as fit as anyone at the end of the game.
What did you see that was different?
BBC World Service was a godsend. Spent many an evening fiddling the aerial and twisting the dial trying to get a signal from various places in Africa and Borneo. Can clearly remember hearing all six of the goal updates from our first game at Withdean in a rainforest camp, and listening to the...
In both the Milner and van Hecke penalties their fate was sealed when they lost their balance and fell in Milner's case and stumbled in JP's. If they had stayed in control in both cases it would have appeared a strong challenge and wouldn't have been penalised.
