Farage saw an opportunity by exploiting immigration to his political advantage. He is and was wrong. We are poorer socially and economically post brexit as a result.
MASS immigration is a global phenomenon caused by global conflict, poverty and repression. Farage uses this in the save way that...
I used to be vehemently opposed to PR for this reason. There is a strong argument that Hitler would never have achieved power under FPTP. The most serious historians such as AJP Taylor argued that WW2 might never have happened on this basis.
However, I have argued more recently in favour of PR...
I think you are right. However challenging, we must all follow and passionately protect the mantra ‘innocent until proven guilty’. That’s a grown up principal that social media has abandoned with often tragic consequences
If Farage simply said to his acolytes ‘ Stop. This tragedy involving the death of children had nothing to do with asylum dealers, muslims or rule britannia’ then calm might return.
Will he?
Of course not.
It’s not our system, it’s US - all of us. If a politician is honest in this sense, listens to the arguments and does a ‘U turn’, or god forbid admits that there isn’t an immediate answer to whatever problem is the flavour of the day, then they become unelectable, incompetent and out of touch...
I’ve said this before but can’t help repeat: The behaviour of Farage, Reform, EDL etc has so many parallels to 1930s Germany.
We ( the 95% normal members of our society) need to wake up!
Consternation in Mallorca today over very large and visible graffiti in Manacor (2nd biggest city) saying “Kill a tourist”.
Obviously not the sentiments of most demonstrators but growing fears of where the nutters on the extremities of the argument are heading and how the whole saga is escalating.
Would have liked an option to vote for ‘No biggie and those that claim to be offended need to see what else is going on in the world and get some perspective’.
But to be fair, that’s a bit long!
I hate it when people still refer to things like ‘the class system’, not least because this tends to perpetuate it when 99% of people have long moved on.
BUT I think your last statement is spot on. IHT never hurts the people who worked hard to earn their ‘estate’, only those who might inherit...
Furthermore, those parents had ample opportunity to mitigate the eventual level of IHT whilst they were alive. If they chose not too then the whole of society benefits but the inheritors do pretty well too.
So as you suggest, what’s the problem?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I guess. Personally i think they are majestic but i can see why others don’t. However if it’s a choice between not liking the look of turbines and the impact of climate change….
Cats will always kill far more birds than turbines so let’s ban cats! (Actually...
I think you make some fair points. Means testing for all benefits is fair. If you don’t need financial support from the taxpayer then why should you get it? This then saves money that can be put to good use elsewhere or, my own personal campaign, can be used to give MORE support to those at the...
I don’t think it is as clear cut as you make out for Starmer. He needs to demonstrate fiscal responsibility to create the confidence for investment in the Uk to drive growth which he believes will lift the country out of the mess we are in.
Economic stability creates the conditions that can...
Do you think that really the case? I would have thought we are much more united on many (but obviously not all) big issues like abortion and gun control and i cant ever imagine Brits voting for a potential prime minister with convictions a la Trump
Only if you then believe that a group of people you support have a democratic right to disrupt thousands of people's lives, cost the tax payer £millions etc. I suspect most people don't.
