[Music] Songs - You still remember the first time you heard them

A couple in the sub-category of songs I remember hearing for the first time when travelling to watch the Albion. I was listening to a Tom Waits compilation CD for the first time when driving down to the cup game against Portsmouth in 93. When Kentucky Avenue came on I initially thought it was...

    [Travel] Your favourite journey

In 1976 when I was 17 I took a train from Moscow, where my dad worked for 2 years, to Helsinki. Soviet soldiers boarded the train at about 6am with machine guns and checked all passengers and every part of the train. Then it was about an hour of travelling through a no-mans’s land of forest...

[Help] Care For The Elderly in Home

I chose Home Instead to provide my mother's care in Hove for the 2 years before her death aged 92 a year ago. The care she needed increased over this period and they were able to increase the support they provided in line with this. They had about 4 carers looking after her and they spent a...

    Thanks very much.

[Politics] Collin Powell dies at 84.

He had Multiple Myeloma, like me, a cancer which suppresses the immune system and makes vaccinations less effective and the risk of death from contracting Covid much higher. We are very dependant on other people having vaccinations and taking some minimal safety measures.

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

I agree. The term chaos is unhelpful and alarming. There will be some confusion, particularly where I live where some trains are TFL (masks compulsory) and some West Anglia (masks optional) but I am hoping that some common sense breaks out.

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

I don't doubt that this was the case as many people viewed hospitals as unsafe and were alarmed by the tone of campaigns and many that tried to get to be seen will have had difficulty getting GP appointments. None of these would have been helped by attempts to play down the pandemic or by not...

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

Yes, every death resulting from this situation is a tragedy, and it is always a question of balance which is all I am asking for as a vulnerable person. By all means open up some things like hospitality but retain safe spaces in things like transport and essential shops which do not have a...

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

I am speaking as a vulnerable person who has a compromisd immune system (cancer but not caused by lifestyle ) which will reduce the efficiency of a vaccination and is much more likely to suffer a serious case of Covid. Personally I am not too worried about people going to pubs, clubs etc.. I...

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

I keep hearing that there will be almost a fixed number of cases that we might as well deal with now but I don't get it. With every vaccinated person the chance of one serious case is reduced regardless of the season. It only makes sense if your actual strategy is to use infections as a way of...

[Other Sport] Rip cyanide sid cooper

Sorry, I think I might have the wrong person. I know there was someone called Cyanide Sid who sat behind me at Withdean but I don't think he was a wrestler. Apologies for any offence.

[Other Sport] Rip cyanide sid cooper

I sat in the seat in front of Sid for many seasons at Withdean and he was at the heart of the conversations that the regulars had at every game. He always had an interesting perspective and sometimes didn’t hold back with his opinions. I remember a game against Plymouth when he unleashed all...

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

As a vulnerable person, I was assessing risk all the time, looking at what activities were safe, monitoring blood test immune level indicators like neutrophil levels etc. In assessing risk from Covid, the infection rates are a key factor. When the original roadmap was introduced, I had no...

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

I know exactly how you feel as I have Myeloma and am permanently on chemotherapy. I have always tried to assess risk objectively which has meant that in recent months I have commuted on the tube, eaten out etc with safety measures in place but I can’t see how I can continue do so when these...

Main Coronavirus / Covid-19 Discussion Thread

As I have reduced immunity due to blood cancer the protection I have from the vaccinations will be less than for a healthy person and I may have none at all. I was reasonably confident travelling on the tube, eating out etc with some measures in place, like face masks on public transport, but...

[Misc] Things your parents said that surprised you

My dad's advice when he sent me off to boarding school in my early teens. 'At school you may be tempted to do certain things. Don't. You will feel very dirty afterwards' No clarification of what these things might be was offered.
