I first heard this listening to the radio one cold afternoon sitting in a chilly room at my university accommodation in November 2009 and absolutely fell in love with it. I'd never heard of Paloma or her music before but I became a fan there and then.

1968, my first job, walked into the staffroom at lunchtime and this came on the radio, I'm taken right back to that moment every time I hear this classic.

I could easily overload the internet with this. Music is my life as an ex full time DJ and so many songs bring back such wonderful memories. But this is 'first time' songs and three really stick in my mind.

Sherrys and the DJ said, and I quote, 'I can see you're not ready to dance so here's some new music from Stevie Wonder'. Again I know who I was with but that's another subject. Good times.

First heard this in the Top Rank Suite, Brighton (even remember who I was with and where I was stood). Prior to this, music was Brotherhood of Man, 10cc & the likes. This was new and the forerunner of 'disco'. I hated it and said at the time it wouldn't be a hit. How wrong was I?

I was driving home from my pub in Spain and feeling very down. The local radio station would play a satellite station overnight called Super Radio. At about 4 am this song came on. I was passing the local park and was in floods of tears and had to pull over, that's the effect it had on me. Earmarked for my funeral.

Round my mates house, his eldest brother had bought Pretty Vacant and said "Have a listen to this, it's shit". We both disagreed.

I was working in Brussels for a while. They pipe music through the whole underground system. Returning late one night after an excellent night on the beer, I was the only one to get off at a particularly cavernous underground station - and they had this playing, cranked right up. Sounded incredible.

Three very clear ones for me. Sometime in the mid 60s sitting at home watching TOTP and Cream came on to do I Feel Free. I had never heard of them or Eric Clapton before. I was about 13 and it just blew me away. Thet were wearing silly convict outfits with arrows on and Jack Bruce was so obviously mining.......... but they are still in my top three favourite ever bands.

I was sitting on the floor of our dining room at home setting up my Scalextric and need Your Love So Bad by Fleetwood Mac came on my little tranny with the fake black leather case. Blew my mind time again.

And thirdly

Sometime in the late 1960s or early 70s, TOTP changed their format slightly and started to dip in to more heavyweight music and deal with a coupld of things in more depth. It didn't last for long, but I 100% remember seeing Free on there doing this.

I rest my case, m'lud.

A couple in the sub-category of songs I remember hearing for the first time when travelling to watch the Albion.

I was listening to a Tom Waits compilation CD for the first time when driving down to the cup game against Portsmouth in 93. When Kentucky Avenue came on I initially thought it was a pleasant enough song but was floored by the final verse and almost needed to pull over. I also remember hearing Wuthering Heights for the first time on someone's radio on the Seagull Special to Hull, I think, in 77.

Mid mid mid Sussex

Wife rushed in for an emergency caesarian at about 3am after a horrific, and almost fatal, labour. This was playing in the back ground as the teams did their job. Still well up now.

Off topic but, leading up to the November due date of my first child (who coincidentally needed an emergency caesarian at a similar early hour), I couldn't get the Morrissey song "November Spawned a Monster" out of my head. Still haunts me now...

The first time I heard & saw Rio & Save a prayer on MTV in NYC in the early 80’s , I was hooked . I loved the sound and it all looked so glamorous. They sounded and looked and acted like I imagined pop stars would .

Nowdays , that glamour seems to have largely disappeared from most of the pop acts . Nowdays they look more like reality tv stars, low rent and rather common .

Albion and Premier League latest from Sky Sports
