It looks like a flute or ocarina.
Like this one on Wikipedia, dating from 1300-1500.
In 1964an English mathematician invented a new kind of ocarina allowing a full octave to be played. This is now know as (ahem) 'the English fingering system'.
Sorry to hear about this @Bozza . I'm in the process of selling my mum's house and am still finding things she squirreled away in odd places. There's a lot of experience and good advice on this thread and on the Alzheimers Socerty website and messageboard (not as entertaining as NSC though)!

That made me laugh - I wondered if she ever bummed a drink off me in the PV.

Coming back from the Cottage last week, there was a big bunch of Italian students on the train and one had an oversized Albion Skint home shirt on. I wondered how he got it and how much it cost. My daughter has taken to wearing my 1996 Fulham away shirt. Apparently, da yoof call it 'blokecore'.
And also sponsored by Stetson hats. In the summer (remember that?) I was in Mad Hatter and they told me that there would be a new blue hat in the new series, and lo and behold...
I'm watching ep 1 of the new series now. It's incredible how much Bob has come on as an angler.
Shurely, the whole series must be sponsored by the UK Tourism Authority (& the places they fish / stay).
