[Football] Man City WILL BE RELEGATED from Premier League, says Football Finance Expert

i read this as City had used other companies in the city football group to basically move the debt accrued by the football clubs to other entities within the group, therefore giving them less debt on the books boosting then amount they can spend

Yeah I heard that today, after the headline yesterday. It's still a joke, with Real Madrid getting funded by the government. They spend far more than any English club ever has. The highest paid player in the Premier League was a Real Madrid player (on loan).

If City go down (which i cant believe will happen), assume one of Ipswich, Saints and Leicester avoid the drop? Or do all three go down and four come up?
If there was any justice, it would be four down, four up, since the bottom three have all been stinking out the league all season. But it'll probably be three down / three up with one of Ipswich or Leicester avoiding the drop, since no amount of monkeying around with points deductions would likely save Saints.

Having said that, I'd be very surprised if anything happens for all the reasons many people have expressed here already.

Yep. If they can appeal, they will. And on this goers with no resolution. What objectionable behaviour.

Could happen. Just relegating them would be a one year thing that would sound harsh, but in fact better than starting multiple points in the PL with point deductions or get banned from European football for a while

Clubs would have to vote on it, I believe. If City are relegated then it means one less promotion place next season as City are bound to win it (assuming no additional points deductions). I suspect that clubs would vote against.
An ITK guy on Clive Myrie podcast said there is no mechanism for EFL or the clubs to reject a relegated team.

It depends, from what I understand there are very narrow grounds for an appeal.

You'd certainly hope not, given how long it's taken to arrive at this point.

Maybe it's why they've been so crap this season: because they already know deep down they'll be playing Cardiff and Wycombe away next season.

This is what I think, I reckon they already know their fate, a team like Man City don’t just become crap over night like they have this season, I’m sure they know !

I've been thinking this all along. There just doesn't seem to be the focus or drive this season from any part of the club, nobody is particularly upset when they lose

Nah. The club have spent the entire time claiming they're innocent and confident they will get no punishment, and while that's false bravado, they're not going to have quietly gone to the players 'we think we'll get a 60 points deduction, so don't bother trying'. Perhaps you're only suggesting that some players have a nagging doubt, and that can effect them, which is fair enough. But they don't know their fate any more than we do.

The fact is that a couple of key injuries (like Rodri) combined with the entire squad getting a bit old and crap (like Walker) all combined to make them drop.

You’re quite possibly correct, but you’d be foolish to think that the higher echelons don’t have an idea of their fate, and rumours will filter down.

Well City's lawyers will have an idea of whether the case went really well, really badly, or somewhere in between. If it's in between then those at the top won't even know what's going to happen.

But if Pep knew it was going to be bad (and he'd know more than the players), why the hell would he sign for an extra year? Is it his lifetime ambition to manage in the Championship?

I too was under the 'not trying' belief, but then again they'd still want European football and I'm guessing any points deduction wont effect a spot gained from a Cup win. City in the Europa Leagua Ha Ha. Or even better NOT in the UEL as they lose to us in the final.
Wasn't it mentioned that Man Utd lost around £40 million by not being in the UCL?
