Regardless of whether it should, it will never happen. The EPL etc will not risk their finances by taking on City in a further fight that could end up with City suing the EPL for £billions in damages, nor will the EPL want to have a competition without City due to the potential reduction in revenue streams by having one of their global teams out of the league.

In a way it surprises me that anybody still thinks that there is anything that top trumps money in the business of football. etc. I wish it were different but it is where we are now.
Two words:
Juventus
Rangers
Shit can happen for the biggest of clubs.

I'm not saying it will here, but it may.
And I don't share your confidence in the corruption and venality of the EPL.
The EPL can survive quite happily without Citeh for a season (or, hopefully, more).

We all know that they will only get a massive fine that won't damage them, plus a possible transfer ban (hence the recent multiple signings).

But it would be great if they were given a 60 point deduction this season, resulting in them being relegated in May.
And also something like starting next season with a 50 point deduction in the Championship meaning they would need about 105 points to get into the play-offs (just to provide a bit of jeopardy).

Alas, we are all going to feel very deflated when they escape any meaningful punishment.

IF that happened, how many players would they actually keep?
On the money they are paid, most of them I would imagine.
And it is quite unlikely many of them have a relegation release clause in their contract they can trigger.

All that aside, I wonder if Pep knows what is coming and has decided to take it on the chin,
but the inevitable vibe has tricked down to the players,
which is why the apparent loss of one player has totally destroyed a seemingly indestructible mojo.

And we get YEARS of traction of claiming that whichever of the other big clubs wins the title that year doesn't count because Man City weren't in it

I hope it's Arsenal as they'd absolutely HATE that

Yes.
Almost inversely proportionally to the amount we hate the fact we won tier four by 12 points only because Chesterfield had a 9 point deduction

So this case isn't being decided by the Premier League, it's being decided by an independent panel. This means that what the consequences for UEFA or EFL competition SHOULDN'T be considered. It means that where they currently are in the league and the effects of any points deduction SHOULDN'T have any bearing. It means the affordability of the fine or the future PSR issues the club may face in the lower leagues SHOULDN'T be a consideration.

But there's always the cynic in me which suggests the rich can buy themselves out of trouble.

Not holding my breath, City will be able to expensive lawyer their way out of this with delays going on for another four years or more. That’s assuming they are even found guilty.

If found guilty of anything, will they not also be dealing with being sued by all of the clubs that could have won the disputed tournaments?

What I don’t quite understand is that our league is arguably the best league in the world, combining revenue , interest and support.I believe this is based on fair competition, when the likes of “Little old Brighton” can compete and beat the likes of Manchester City.Lose that competition and you lose the league.I wouldn’t be surprised if city want not to have season ticket holders as well, but just football day trippers.

I predict a 30 point deduction meaning that Man City stay up easily.
It would be super annoying if they see a point deduction applied this year - when they aren't going to win the league anyway so aren't being denied anything - if it also means it's not enough to relegate them.

That would basically be a completely meaningless deduction.

That's the point though, isn't it?

If they're found guilty, they wouldn't too big a punishment so a deduction that would see them out of Europe but not out of the league would be perfect. There'd be no desire for anything meaningful

Unless the deduction is enough to relegate them.

This will never happen but my view is that they get points deduction for every season they cheated (allegedly etc.).

So if found guilty of cheating over, say, 5 seasons then 5 seasons of whatever points deduction.
Or, cheat for 5 years, get relegated down 5 divisions etc.

Would prevent the "we'll cheat for 10 years then spend 1 year out in lower league, straight back up and then repeat"....
