All being targets for Russian snipers.
Whoever draws the short straw.
I'm imagining thousands of American engineers, miners, construction, real estate contractors, bags packed, staying in US airport hotels just waiting for the minerals and infrastructure memorandum to be signed.
A kind of 'human, economic shield '.
Am I wrong,?
No I can imagine that happening. It will provide Putin with lots of opportunity for hostage taking - which he’s very good at

Putting aside the Agent Krasnov / Trump in Putin's pocket thing, the whole episode has been a real shitshow.
The guys down my local pub (The Wilmington since you're asking) could have done better.

The uncertiainty, the inconsistent messaging, the disaster in the Oval Office, the putting of the whole continent of Europe on edge - none of this was necessary. None of it.

The arrogance, ignorance and incompetence of this shower have combined to produce a level of chaos never before seen. Not since the last Trump administration anyway.
As that's my local I can't decide whether I should be offended or not! :lolol:

Senate live session on Ukraine just started. Sanders talking

Oh FFS, the guy (Idaho) that was putting in his objection to the resolution had a point that it would be pointless.. Then suddenly says only Trump can end the war & my tiny bit of respect went out of the window.
Place is empty. :(

Edit. The Idaho (sp) guy is a w**ker

2nd Edit. Wow North Korea and China abstained but Trump didn't!! ☹️

Typical Trump propagandist, try and deflect, obfuscate and deceive.

What have his wifes charities got to do with Rory Stewarts political opinion, on what Trump would likely do, on his podcast?

When then, other media publications, cite what Trump is doing and why not yet signing deal (trying to further extort Ukraine for more, as i posted), the very thing Stewart predicted. Is he right or wrong?

Lets assume for 1 minute theres any credibility in the diversionary non answer you replied with.

Does his wife's charity HR choices make Rorys prediction wrong or invalid in some warped MAGA apologist way, or does Trump doing the very thing Rory said he would, make his prediction right?
Well, perhaps if Rory Stewart didn’t actively pimp his missus charity for donations you would have a gossamer thin squeak at a point, however he evidently is an activist for the charity……….

Rory Stewart on X: "All BigGive donations to Turquoise Mountain’s amazing work in Afghanistan, Palestine and Myanmar will be doubled before midday 🙏and I will also give a pound to TM for every like and RT (….up to 10k he adds hastily..) https://t.co/w9dpxFjGDD" / X

Checking out the accounts it’s clear that the charity’s income is entirely driven by “grants” of which £2m is US taxpayers money. Given the nature of the charity’s activities, it’s understandable why the US has seen sense to pull the plug.

You can argue it wouldn’t change his view of Trump, however it’s a fact that with his missus charity now in the shit, there is a conflict which doesn’t help with the “independence” of his view

Yes it's either or both of those.
I often forget about the Hunter Biden thing. Holding a grudge, very vindictively, is a huge part of Trump's make up.
saw a news piece the other day, had forgot about all the details. could be, that rather than a Russian agent, Trump just wants a public "thank you Mr Trump" and private "sorry about the thing", and be best buds with Ukraine the next day.

Saying it out loud now.. The world as we've known it has changed very quickly..

Macron says Europe needs to be 'ready' for the US to 'not be at our side'

Macron said Russia cannot be taken at its word. “We cannot forget Russia started its invasion of Ukraine in 2014 and we negotiated the Minsk Accords ceasefire,” he said. He said France will continue to meet with allies with the goal of signing a “lasting, solid, verifiable peace agreement”. He said he has been working with European partners and Ukraine on this plan, and that he went to “advocate” for the plan when he visited Donald Trump last week.

“I want to believe that the US will stand by our side, but we have to be ready for that not to be the case,” he said.

No one can say the US position has happened quickly, Trump made the same point he’s been making recently about Europe’s ability to defend itself back in 2017. No politicians around then can say they were not warned, and Macron was there.

As for Macron and French armed forces, they could always start helping closer to home if they want to establish a trusting relationship with the U.K.

The shit has been well trodden into the Axminster on that position in recent years……..

You're really becoming a complete bore.

And a deluded, diversionary bore with it.

Youre simping for a convited sexual assaulter, convicted tax fraud cheat, a serial bullshitter with over 30k verified lies in first term, an insurrectionist, friend of Epstein. He is that person, that is him.

Rory Stewart is a former politician, whose political opinion is his own and has nothing to do with anyone else or their charities whatsover, He was right on the piece of shit you try and cover for, and like the good little brainless propagandist you are, you're trying to muck rake with non related bullshit to divert from that simple truth.

Whats youre next installment of nonsense? He's clearly got a grudge as he bought a VW ID4 and not a Tesla?

Do jog off, its tiresome.

In the guardian, when mentioning the US has stopped intelligence sharing today in addtion to arms supplies before, theres this quote from an un-named US official.

"White House officials indicated that both bans could be lifted if peace talks make progress."

So yesterday, the arms ban was to the victim to the negotiating table, Zelensky since made that humble response....... then today, its additionally stopping the sharing of intel, which costs nothing in monetry terms, and now the goalposts move again, and its not just getting to the table, its "if peace talks progress".

I think it should start to become painfully clear what the intent is, at this negotiating table, they're going to try and strong arm Ukraine into a Russian capitulation "deal" and will be witholding all aid and intel unless they sign up to this.

So, if peace talks make progress, Zelenskyy could be supplied with arms and intelligence? I’ve given up tying up understand the logic. 🤦

There are a lot of people that think Trump is a c**t that aren't part of any charities. I'm watching the live feed that @peterward has posted from the Senate. There appears to be some rational people in the Senate that can see that Trump is being a tw@t. (y)

From social media……

A man sits across from power. His fingers tighten around the arms of his chair.

The bully makes no effort to mask his contempt. He sits rigidly, eyes burning with an unnatural intensity, fingers twitching on the armrest of his chair. When he speaks, it is not a conversation but an eruption — words spat like bullets, contempt laced through every syllable.

The outburst does not abate. It is not a speech but an assault, designed not to persuade but to disorient, to cow, to humiliate. The bully leans forward, slamming his fists against the table. His face reddens, his voice sharpens. He moves from insults to threats, from history to grandiosity. The great country he leads will no longer be mistreated, he says. Those days are over. The people have had enough. His words are not arguments — they’re sentences, verdicts, pronouncements of doom.

“You are nothing,” says the bully, not quite shouting. One of his lackeys smirks. “You think you are independent? You are a failure, a disgrace.” Behind him, the immense generals stand silent, unmoving. They don’t need to speak; their presence says everything. The visitor looks at them and understands what is being offered. This is not diplomacy. It’s a choice between submission and annihilation.

The visitor is allowed no rebuttal. He does not speak until the torrent of invective slows, and even then, his words are weak, uncertain. He tries to protest, to insist that he and his country are not to blame, that he has done all he could to maintain peace. The bully’s response is bitter, scornful laughter, as if the very idea is absurd. He rises suddenly—pacing now, shaking his head, muttering to himself in a fevered rant. “You will sign, or we will act. You will agree, or you will cease to exist.”

There is no need to say what that means. The visitor has seen the faces of the men behind him. He knows that even if he signs, this meeting is not a negotiation but an autopsy. He has been given no options, only demands. If he yields, his nation dies slowly. If he resists, it dies swiftly. There will be no help coming.

The year was 1938. The visitor was the chancellor of Austria, Kurt Schuschnigg. The bully was Adolf Hitler. The place was the Berghof, Hitler’s alpine retreat.

The analogy is shocking. We need to know our history.

When Liz Truss became the UK leader and introduced some poor decisions that were damaging to the UK it took about 40 days for her to be ejected from power.

I have no idea how the US constitution works but surely they must have a mechanism for Trump to be removed? A vote of no confidence, type thing.

Of course, Vance taking over could be a frying pan to fire move anyway. There must be many Yanks asking themselves, "what have I done"?

Translation;

If Zelenskyy surrenders to Putin and hands Ukraine over to the U.S. to divvy up with Russia. Hands over the mineral rights etc, Trump will stop enabling Russia to destroy Ukraine and its people.

I mean, effectively if that happens Ukraine ceases to exist. All it’s soldiers are put to the sword, all its children are kidnapped and raised as Russians, and all the women are raped and slaughtered.

See now if I was in authority maybe just sink it and say it wasn’t us. It’s what Russia does.
Probably best I’m not
100%

I’m with you. the only difference is I’d sink it and happily tell Russia we did it. And I’d tell them if they come back I’ll sink any ship that comes our way.

And bring your lunch, I’ll have that and all.

Don't try too hard the logic...there seems to be very little involved. At the moment it's a complicated game, which is shocking given what's at stake.

Maybe that's part of it, but if Zelenskiy brought him a Ukrainian pilot's jacket as a gift, Trump would say he'd prefer a Russian one IMO.
It's just the attacks on Zelenskiy and Ukraine have been consistent, from Trump, Vance, Musk:
- I don't care what happens to Ukraine
- he's a conman, a mediocre comedian
- he's a dictator
- there should be elections
- Ukraine started the war
.....

And not one criticism of Russia or Putin.
Trump's had a relationship with Putin and Russia for decades: business deals, money coming in to fund political positions etc.
I don't think this can be fixed by Zelenskiy saying 'sorry' (and for what 🤷🏼‍♂️).

These attacks were all planned, and in plain sight.
I would love to be proved wrong, and that Trump will pivot, but at the moment I don't see it.
