Our other CMs weren't fit to start, and probably made us worse when they came on, despite Gomez's flashes of quality. Didn't really have a choice.

But fair enough, let's take consistent dogmatism over occasional flexibility lest the latter fail to secure all three points every week.

I mentioned the injuries several times, RDZ suffered that too big time yet a few here won’t allow it as a reason for bad results. Odd.

It definitely hampered our season, it was catastrophic. But you still have agency as a manager, you can adapt your tactics to the injury list and I never got the sense RDZ was willing to, easier to whine about a lack of reinforcements. Anyway, Billy Gilmour.

No problem. The various bits of info I’ve ever garnered from the Albion came from a current board director and two very senior StarLizard employees. ALL of them were GRANITE about releasing even the smallest detail about the workings of the club. It’s cultural and driven by Tony.
I think in all reality most of these links come from people not employed by the club, a lot of family and friends. The manager does have some input as we wouldn’t have sold Trossard for example, who if it wasn’t for his fall out with RDZ could have stayed. The decision to move Billy Gilmour on likely wasn’t solely FH’s decision, but him not fancying him must have played a large role in him leaving, is what I gather. It wasn’t said there was a big fall out or anything. I personally was pretty non fussed about Gilmour moving on, but can see the experience lost now, his lack of contribution is what I think is a lot of the reason we look toothless in attack now. He moved the ball around a lot quicker than anyone else, but a lot of it is down to manager instructions. There’s no reason Ayari, Wieffer or O’Riley can’t do what Gilmour did, but needed bedding in time. An example of probably letting him go 6 months to a year too early.

From the genuinely ITK NSC’er (not us), Gilmour was determined to join Napoli months before he departed. His professionalism to the end, unlike Sanchez, gives the false impression to those looking for 2+2=5 that FH ushered him out of the door.

That wasn’t that it all. BG wanted to seize the Napoli opportunity before a 2024/25 ball was kickes, it was simply about TB being okay with the fee.

Being a dick in training....

I am not an RDZ fanboy, but....

However I expect if FH really wanted Gilmour to stay, he would’ve or the fee would have been a lot higher.

Gilmour was set on the move. Rarely (Zaha and Kane highly paid prisoners for years) do clubs control the destiny. We know TB doesn’t play that game.

Could FH influence the fee?

Haha. I watched this game, and that SCOTTISH Sun article is hilarious.

"Conte - who is a HUGE fan of Gilmour..."
Such a huge fan, that he's started him in SIX of their 27 Serie A matches.

The article goes on to wax lyrical about Billy's STUNNING SHOWING in their 1-1 draw at home to Inter, somehow omitting the small detail that they were slipping to a hugely damaging defeat, when Billy was hooked for Philip Billing, who changed the game, and scored the equaliser!

He was excellent in that game and got taken off with cramp. I’ve no idea why so many of our fans seem desperate to make out he failing. He was as professional with us when he was away to leave as Mac Allister was, he did nothing wrong here.

He was tidy in the game. A solid 7 out of 10. It wasn't a STUNNING SHOWING, or anything close to it. That is why the article made me laugh - not because I HATE Billy Gilmour!

Do you not think it even slightly amusing that they 'forgot' to include the detail that they were losing 0-1, when he was replaced, or that his replacement scored the equaliser?

Seems like they've just rehashed a more in-depth Gregor Robertson piece for The Times without bothering to be there, unlike the original author. I read that piece and it was very much 'Scotsman desperate for Gilmour to be great'. Conte does praise Billy's attitude and says he 'loves him' but, as you mentioned, doesn't actually ever play him very much. He's basically a back-up who is due to get some games now because the first choice is injured, so Conte is talking him up.

I agree the OTT stuff is funny but they were 1-0 down when they brought on Ngonge and Okafori around the same time, so I don’t see it as that much of a thing. It’s essentially “Sub scores equaliser”.

Agree on all of this. I watched it too and you are spot on and that article is absolutely laughable bollocks. Gilmour was the same as he always is in that game and "Philip" turned the game in that last 20 mins.

Is anyone still saying that moving Billy on is an issue?
Probably not as many a month after this thread started. It's amazing how five wins on the trot alters perspective!

I'd still rather we'd kept WBG though. It's lucky that Ayari surprised us and turned out to be good though - if we'd had to rely on O'Riley, Wieffer and Gruda to be the defensive pivot alongside Baleba until Hinsh got fit the season might have not gone anything like as well.
