If it’s good enough for Brockway, Ogdenville, and North Haverbrook then it should be good enough for the Albion at Falmer. #TeamMonorail
I agree. One of the ways to alleviate the problems with public transport is to allow private transport to shoulder more of the burden. I wouldn't have local parking as a free-for-all, you'd need a permit (like the current visitors permits) so that would manage the numbers and stop the area being swamped with cars.
I'll offer £5.25We already have this. I live in Coldean and don't have a car, so it doesn't bother me. But I do have two parking permits sitting on my desk for my mates when they come down. I think they cost a fiver each.
nice try but they're reserved for my mates. I may get a job lot in the summer though, ready for next seasonI'll offer £5.25
Yeah, we have it round our way too (Fiveways). But as you say you need to know someone in the area. I was proposing to make it more egalitarian. We already have this. The problem is also getting said busses etc away quickly enough and return quickly which really is the issues with park and rideMakeover of Bridge Car Park into Bridge Transport Hub for buses, coaches, 8-seater taxis, bikes, disabled car provisions etc
That might get an extra 50 of the busWiden, improve and put in decent lighting all along the cycle paths from Lewes and Brighton. Including making it simpler to ride all the way to the bike storage without weaving through crowds, pushing up/down steps etc.
The potential for cycling to and from games is huge, but not the easiest at the moment, despite the cycle path along the A27. I know it won't work for everyone, but it takes all the pressure off in terms of gettgng to and from games, so should appeal to a lot of us and for a relatively modest investment I reckon the club could massively increase cycling and thus reduce use of trains and buses. Could combine with an electric bike/scooter hire system (once the path is wide enough to safely seperate walkers and riders) for the less mobile.
The answer to this, is Southern would probably just close the station on Matchdays sadly. This is quite radical.......but what if Barber stopped collecting the "travel tax" from STHs and other ticket holders? Southern would then have to issue and check tickets for potentially thousands each home game. Would Southern have the resources to police train tickets or would they just let everybody bundle on the trains for free?
@jackalbion has already explained that the number of services means the lines are at capacity on matchdays; it's just that the trains are not long enough. I'm wondering which would be the best option for Southern. Issue and check tickets yourself or stick another couple of carriages on each train during peak matchday hours.
I'd still love to know what the club's Service Level Agreement is with Southern. Do Southern get paid "up front" or on matchdays, or sometime after matchday?
Suspect they'd simply close Falmer station for a few hours before and after matches. They've got previous form for major station restrictions at other major events (Bike Ride, Pride, Amex gigs). Basically the club appear to be paying Southern handsomely to soak up the grief of keeping the station open on matchdaysThis is quite radical.......but what if Barber stopped collecting the "travel tax" from STHs and other ticket holders? Nicely avoiding the "no comments about a monorail, zip wire or waterslide" demand.Cable car from Brighton i over the top to the Amex. A continual loop of cable cars would ease the situation!
To encourage car sharing, at the entrance to the Bridge car park or at the main entrance to the Uni car parks, get two designated trustworthy stewards to give a £5 club shop voucher to drivers who turn up with at least 4 people in each car.
I used to work on contract for Southern Water at Falmer. They had, and may well still have, a humungous car park that usually had no more than about a dozen cars in it, and several football fieldsworth of unused parking spaces. And that was during office hours. Deal to be done there shirley?Surely there's somewhere in Coldean or Moulsecoomb (so roughly 15 mins walk from the stadium) where we could have a bus stop and queue set up with some double decker buses shuttling back and forth down the A270 to get people into town and take the strain off the train queues. & maybe something similar from Sussex uni to Lewis.
The problem with that site and also suggestions for setting up something by The Keep is the exit is into the same bottleneck that we already have from the Bridge. The bridge can be slow enough at the best of times, adding more traffic trying to escape through the junction will only make things worse.I used to work on contract for Southern Water at Falmer. I really don’t get the bus/driver excuse. At the very least it’s a problem that money could solve. Brand new buses cost around £300k. Train some drivers. It certainly puts a pin in the “nothing we can do, guv” excuse from the clubThe problem with that site and also suggestions for setting up something by The Keep is the exit is into the same bottleneck that we already have from the Bridge. I remember talking to the guy who runs the Pyecombe P&R and he would happily make it available on a regular basis but he'd been told the issue was getting the extra buses (and drivers) needed to run it properly.
If the question was asked, would people prefer to have half a dozen buses running a shuttle to the Level / Old Steine and back or have those buses support an extra P&R site?
