From the 7th floor at the far end we couldn't see what had happened and certainly didn't see the red brandished. When he walked away we assumed he had been subbed but no one came immediately on and only knew when checking the BBC app!
At first I thought he’d tried a delicate little dink and overcooked it and it had gone over the bar.Same on the telly. 100% convinced he was offside, and then I thought he had sliced it into the side netting anyway. So just sort of sat there and then enjoyed the dawning realisation that this was actually a goal!
Joao Pedro gave him a gentle pushWatching on TV when I saw ref getting red card out was concerned it was for our player pushing him Silly thing to do Who was it ? Once Gordon was off felt we were in with great chance of winning. That was until minutes later Lampty was off. Could see this happening since his first yellow and thought he would be taken off at half time.
Similar for me. Watching on the TV I didn't think it was offside but thought he had missed as you didn't see the ball in the net until the cameras switched to Welbz running off in celebration.Same on the telly. 100% convinced he was offside, and then I thought he had sliced it into the side netting anyway. Never seen anything like it. May not have been apparent on TV, but from where I was sat, nobody in the away end had a bloody clue he'd been sent off. Normally, an opponent being sent off is met with loud cheers and mockery, but not in this case, because we were all completely in the dark. You're so far away up there in the gods at SJP, you genuinely can't see stuff. Gordon walked off the pitch and it was barely noticed. I and all those around me thought he'd been subbed (possibly to avoid him getting booked). The first we knew anything different was when people started getting BBC notifications or messages from mates about the red card
Absolute scenes.
No thanks, my over riding memory of phoning the seagull line during an away match was Millard, after the blurb, saying “Bad news for Albion fans” pretty well every time I phonedShould have called the club line 0956
Evidently from watching it on TV this morning he did, but he was in the middle of a cluster of players, and from that away end, located somewhere just outside Bishop Auckland, they’re all like ants.Why didn’t the ref clearly show the red card?
Luckily, Danny’s goal was at our end, so we were only, what, a couple of hundred yards away from it?You think those were scenes, wait until you find out the result!
I knew that someone very clever would say that..!Hmmmm... I quite enjoyed it yesterday.
Yep - I didn't celebrate the winner at all at the time. I don't think I'd seen the defender at RCB so Welbeck looked comfortably offside.I knew that someone very clever would say that..!
It's the sort of issue where i find "other people" not being too bothered, but it drives me nuts.
@Commander explained it perfectly above...
"I find it genuinely astonishing how bringing in a system that was supposed to improve the game has managed to search and destroy the single thing that makes football the greatest sport of them all with such pinpoint accuracy."
I shouted so loud, I made myself jump!At first I thought he’d tried a delicate little dink and overcooked it and it had gone over the bar.
Was quite a weird technique for the ball to end up where it did and the surprise that it actually went in made it even sweeter.
Not sure the neighbours in the flat upstairs were quite so appreciative though!
But our club, and the other PL clubs, and the EPL itself don't give a stuff about the beheaders breaking the EPL rules and seriously inconveniencing fans.How they get away with putting away fans up there is scandalous

I got back behind the sofa when I saw Gordon trotting off.I thought the same. I had seen the red card in the ref’s hand and my heart was sinking. Then I laughed when I realised it was for Gordon.
As it happens I was in the middle of the shot when the camera went to the crowd after the Welbeck goal and you can see my reaction to realising VAR could ruin it. It definitely takes the edge of it. Welbz just looked offside because I had not spotted right back.Yep - I didn't celebrate the winner at all at the time. I don't think I'd seen the defender at RCB so Welbeck looked comfortably offside.
