No but I know he had a much weaker squad until just before he left and was doing as well with it as RDZ who inherited it did.Low ambitions, if you think that’s a success.touché
As I said both were good for us, it’s not a f***ing competition! One is not the Messiah and the other a Devil…..just imo

Potter did good for the club by changing the style of football from defend for our lives, to trying to keep possession.
His league finishes don’t lie, the long winless runs. He served a purpose, and it’s fortunate Chelsea came in for him so we could upgrade when we did. With the momentum of a good start, RDZ took the club to the next level.

and you KNOW Potter wouldn’t have achieved the same if he’d stayed?I’m not sure he was an upgrade but he was the right man at the right time.
I can pretty well guarantee that we would not have got stuffed in Rome the way we did if GP had been in charge

Well, the previous attempts finished in 15th, 16th and 9th, so evidence based on his previous performance didn’t suggest it. It was very early in the season when he left, and he’d had good starts before and tailed off with long droughts.

Its not belitting it.... if you take the heritage and the history of Brighton v Ajax, of course its a massive deal.
If you're being honest simply about the 2 sets of 11 players, and nothing more, we were better than them by a distance.
Their 11 was miles worse than previous seasons, similarly now, beating Man U today is not same as beating Man U of Fergies generation.
Its still Man U though.

I absolutely would say that. Things like the quality of players. Chelsea, for example, are considered to have had better players than us during Potter’s tenure there.
Unfortunately for him, he was sacked due to poor performance.
Which I’m sure you’ll agree just goes to prove how important a good manager/head coach of a team is having a successful season.
Potter: 15th, 16th, 9th, best: FA Cup Round 5, League Cup Round 4.
De Zerbi: 6th, 11th, best: FA Cup Semi Final, League Cup Round 4. Edit: whoops, forgot won European group containing both Marseilles and Ajax

Brighton & Hove Albion was considered to have a better squad in 2023 compared to 2019.
Could this have had some impact on the 2019/20 season being "mediocre" and the 2021/2022 and 2022/23 seasons not being mediocre?
Do you believe Chelsea is a club that makes sensible and rational decisions? If not, why do you use their decision making as evidence for these ideas of yours?

Why would a manager with more knowledge than me join a club who he knows doesn’t make sensible and rational decisions? Doesn’t seem a very intelligent thing to do. Maybe he’s not very bright?
Firstly if they were good they would have been in the Champions' League. But leaving that aside I think you've missed the point to an extent. Yes, we were better than them. Us. Brighton. Playing in Europe and better than Ajax Amsterdam. I still rub my eyes when I see that final Group Table.

Seeing that interview with the stadium in the background makes me hope that I get the chance to return at some point to watch the Albion there.
It still goes down as my best ever away game. The atmosphere was electric and 100% of the Albion fans were up for it.
It was a hug your neighbour game for both of our goals.
And a beautiful city.

Personally, I think it was an upgrade, just played a bit faster and in a better pattern.
We also know that every season he was with us Potter suffered a poor run, which took some time to get over (as did RdZ that second season).
Both gave us some great memories though, and you can’t have one without the other success wise. I don’t know re Rome, as without MacAllister and Caicedo we had a much weaker team.
What I do know is Potter would have handled it a lot better than RdZ…..
(Perhaps he has more experience of heavy defeats
)….Before the Potter brigade jump on or some bore provides me with the last 5 years of comparable defeats, the last comment was a joke, and I couldn’t give less of a shit.

I doubt they are losing patience, they were 8th last season, this year they are currently 2nd and have won 4 of the last 6! Looks like he’s doing a brilliant job!
