With WHAT guarantee?? that Trump can walk away from any time, and certainly after four years 🤷🏼‍♂️
I bet Russia stands to keep all territories they occupy... sounds like crap to me, surely Europe can do a better deal?

I don't think the deal has anything to do with territories or what Russia can keep. It's all about Ukraine paying for past and future 'aid'.

Not all comments but this is whats written, it's not that long.

Thanks!

That last point is key. I am utterly livid on their behalf, I can’t imagine how the Ukrainian people must feel about this.

This is doing so much damage to USA’s global reputation, people will not forget this for a long time.

For context,, Trump is demanding more from the victim of a genocidal invasion, than Germany was asked to pay after being the clear aggressor and killing 6m Jews.

Is there a non-Twatter copy of this thread somewhere? Would like to read the full thread but I deleted my account on there a few months ago and there’s no way I’m going back.

(Without an account, only the linked Tweet is accessible, without any comments)
I left Twitter and use Bluesky which is almost identical minus the crap. I’m sure you could find many of the same articles on there

The only way signing this deal makes any sense for Ukraine is if the US basically give them everything: cruise missiles, predator drones - all the latest kit as opposed to the older stuff they've given so far. Alternatively, a pledge to send huge quantities of everything so the Russians no longer have an ammo advantage. Not sure how this works in the context of a negotiated peace though. Confusing.

This NYT article just shows the extent of Trumps massive attempted grift and rape of the victim nation, no security guarantees, he wants 500B in a fund now, even though US total aid so far is circa 130B and its not just from rare earth minerals, he also wants 50% from all ports, gas and oil, , he wants 66% of anything in Russian controlled Ukraine. And there's no clear undertaking on how Ukraine may profit at all.

it wasn't paywalled for me, but will add non paywalled underneath just in case

Sickening.

" It states that Ukraine will be required to contribute to the fund a sum equal to twice the amount the United States might give to Ukraine after the deal is signed."

Why would they be paying double for anything the US sends? There's no sense to this. Hopefully Ukraine do what they need to do to win the war, and then tell the US to do one.

It is indeed confusing. What exactly are the US offering in exchange for the money? The NY Times article says they're offering basically nothing.

Not only that. For every $1 US provide in aid, Ukraine have to pay $2 into a fund - on which the US collect 100% of the interest.

So if they're not offering anything, there must be a pretty sizable threat. So far nothing seems a big enough stick to make Zelensky sign such an awful deal. We're missing something I think. What are we not being told?

I’ve held off so far on the basis that it’s being built by the same man who built the original cesspit. Musk just took it to a new level.
Jack Dorsey has nothing to do with Bluesky anymore, he wasn't its creator, but was on its a board a while. He cut all ties and left Bluesky completely a year ago.

I wonder what international law is like on extortion deals like this.

I could sign a deal that says I give you 100% of everything I earn for the next year. The contract wouldn't be enforceable under UK law because there's no consideration (you offered nothing back).
