Essential in an away game against a good side to have a good defensive midfielder. Mad to play Hinch who likes to get forward. Several much better choices. Veltman CM and Hinch RB Van Hek CM
It really was as if he had picked back 5 than Hinch. Then didnt weant to leave any of the 5 forwards out so he played them all.

To say he'd do it again is a really poor look and a bit of an insult to fans like myself who travelled today.

Appreciate he was dealt a bad hand this afternoon & that not many midfielders could play 90 minutes but to play so offensively from the off was tactically naive in my opinion.

I'm no tactical genius but playing away to a really strong Forest side warranted starting a defensive midfield setup, perhaps Gomez in there with Hinshelwood, and look to build a bit of defensive resilience before making offensive changes later in the game. Our openness from the start just killed any hope we had by HT.

It’s interesting you say that as last season, and I’ve been reminding people we lost 0-4 away at Luton exactly a year ago, but this season we’re only 1 point worse off than at the same stage last season.

1 point.

Sacking the manager isn’t going to happen. Tony hasn’t ever done it within a season and don’t think he’ll do it now.

Forest are a really good team whose style of play is totally suited to playing us.

We had our engine room ripped from us and a key injury to our attacking full back.

We need to move on and regroup, Accept that injuries and poor decisions are going to happen. As is the wailing and gnashing of teeth from our fan base.

Luckily those with full knowledge of the situation and the power to make the necessary changes have a bit more patience and nerve to steer us through these stormy waters.

I think for today’s game, given our injuries to midfield and how good Forest have been, I would have just played more cautiously. Not 11 men behind the ball, but Hinsh, Gomez, and O'Riley starting in midfield, dont commit too much forward early on, play for the counter attacks and see if you can frustrate Forest. Sometimes you've got to realise when things are stacked against you.
I agree. Today appears to have been a bit Somme 1916 and we should have just stayed in the trenches instead of charging into well placed machine guns

I think we are seeing a season where teams have moved on from the possession based style of football that we play. Strong defence and fast breakouts, as demonstrated by Forest and Bournemouth, are dynamic and proving successful. We have the attacking players to do it, like Mitoma and Rutter, and it could suit them. However, is Hurzeler willing to change his philosophy?

We did the fast breakout bit when fab first started. And we often had less possession than the opposition. Not sure what happened. Fab says he likes loads of different managers and styles and can't seem to decide on what he is.

What would I have done? Given them the ball and stayed compact probably, the exact opposite of what they would have wanted and what we did!

Today was stupid tactics, we played right into their hands. Hurzeler has to improve and quickly.

Yep. He’s a lucky boy so many other things going wrong he’s not been under the spotlight.
He looked pretty bloody good at the Euros and the start of the season, good enough to be linked with Real Madrid. He’s not the only one going backwards fast since then. I wonder why that could possibly be.

The relief of getting a proper manager through the door in CH was very welcome. I feel we are in a similar situation at present. The inexperience of FH is very telling the PL is unforgiving not a league to learn in.
It absolutely is, but definitely a risk Bloom was willing to take and while Hyppia had the very real spectre of relegation hanging over him, FH is mid table and all but safe already.

So playing one in CM was suicidal and we shipped three goals, we change to 2 CMs in the second half and ship four goals - dammed if you do or dammed it you don't!

Left Back

Who would you pick from our recognised Full Backs:

Lamptey
Veltman (needed at Right Back)
Estupinian - Injured
Igor - Injured
Hinsh - (needed at CM) not match fit
Kodioglu - Injured
Milner - Injured
Solly (at a push) Injured

What do you do with CM?

Baleba - ill/Injured
Ayari - ill/Injured
O'Reilly - not match fit
Gomez - not match fit
Hinsh - not match fit
Milner - Injured
Weiffer - Injured
Gruda - not a recognised CM
Joe Knight - fit

and what formation would you have played?

So if we are going to sack a Manager who on paper has only lost 6 out of 24 EPL games (25%) and has us at mid table, which is the stated aim, who will you replace him with?
So what you're saying is we had 3 central midfielders.

So I'd have gone with those.

Its not damned if you do or damned if you don't. By the time he reverted away from the mental 4-1-5 formation, that would have got raised eyebrows if my 10 year old daughters' team coach had put it out for an experiment, the game was already gone and we were chasing it and fallen apart. So no surprising we continued the shellacking.

His naivety/ misplaced hubris got the better of him. Let's face it. He said after the match. 'I played the formation because we wanted to create more chances after Everton...if you don't get the balance between attack
And defence right you will lose'.

An astonishing sentence really, given the context of the game. And yet again a sub-conscious insight into a manager seemingly lacking the famous process, and lurching instead from one hopeful solution to the next.
