If the team we started the second half with had started the game we would not have been 3 down at half time. The second half team were doing well until one break away immediately followed by a penalty, then a total loss of heads.

Its simple that the first half selection was stupid - and not changing it at 1-0 was poor and not changing it at 2-0 was mad, just not good enough and thats why I have had a huge shift to Fab out today!

So playing one in CM was suicidal and we shipped three goals, we change to 2 CMs in the second half and ship four goals - dammed if you do or dammed it you don't!

Left Back

Who would you pick from our recognised Full Backs:

Lamptey
Veltman (needed at Right Back)
Estupinian - Injured
Igor - Injured
Hinsh - (needed at CM) not match fit
Kodioglu - Injured
Milner - Injured
Solly (at a push) Injured

What do you do with CM?

Baleba - ill/Injured
Ayari - ill/Injured
O'Reilly - not match fit
Gomez - not match fit
Hinsh - not match fit
Milner - Injured
Weiffer - Injured
Gruda - not a recognised CM
Joe Knight - fit

and what formation would you have played?

So if we are going to sack a Manager who on paper has only lost 6 out of 24 EPL games (25%) and has us at mid table, which is the stated aim, who will you replace him with?
I think your last para is the one that people do really need to focus on when the dust has settled on today and emotions have calmed. However, there are some serious questions to be asked about tactics notwithstanding how we are continually hamstrung by the parade of injuries. For me my underlying concerns are that I'm not sure I know what type of football we are trying to play and he has no idea of his best team.

Yep. He’s a lucky boy so many other things going wrong he’s not been under the spotlight.

A strange silver lining for me is that Steele doesn’t play, as I like him and hated the punchbag criticism he received at every opportunity.

I really rate Sels for example, based on other games, imho far better than Verbruggen this season.

Easier to say in hindsight, but today was the ideal time to try a different formation again.

3 CBs, pack the midfield with who’s available and keep it tight. Mitoma played as a wing back for Japan. Lamptey did it for Potter and RDZ.

Webster, Van Hecke, Dunk

Lampey, O,Riley, Hinselwood, Mitoma

Minteh, Welbeck, Pedro

Hinselwood instructed to cover Mitoma if caught out of position, Hinselwood has experienced as a LB anyway. Minteh told to help Lamptey defensively when he needs it (most of the game). Pedro given an almost free and roaming roll to make space for Welbeck / Mitoma when in attack.

The team that started the second half played against a Forest side clearly sent out to keep it tight and sit back for 10mins. I agree with you the first half selection was madness.

Talk of us starting the second half well though when Forest just sat and clearly under instruction to just wait to see what our shape and tactics would be with the 3 changes flatters us really.

I’m still “Fab In”. It’s embarrassing losing like that, but we brought in a young manager with a lot to learn. Unfortunately some of that learning is on the job. But he ditched the high line after the Chelsea debacle, and I’m sure he’s learned from today.

Although it was clearly a mistake to line up like that, there were some cataclysmic individual errors which made things much worse. Lamptey was all over the place and at fault for at least three goals. Pretty sure he won’t play for us again - he’s a nice guy but so far out of his depth now (esp when he has no help from Mitoma, and no defensive midfielder to take over when he goes walkabout).

I feel slightly sorry for Fab who had very limited options today. Fab has also called out for more strength and muscle - and today you could see why….,we are so lightweight (with the exception of Rutter, and hopefully Gomez who looked ok).

Sometimes you have to grind out results. People slagged off Everton and asked how they could enjoy watching their performance. Does anyone think the Everton fans would have preferred watching their team play 'football' like we did today and lose 7-0 or the 'anti-football' they played last week and 1-0 win?
And they are three up at half-time for the second home game in a row. Looking like 9 points out of 9

At least put another midfield player alongside Hinsh, who is just back from injury. Gomez probably, as FH has talked up his physicality.

Personally I like a 4-1-4-1 formation, but not away from home against a team that's known for being quick on the break (sorry, "in transition") and itching to recover from a mauling of its own a week previously.

Clearly we should sack the medical and fitness teams then.

I hate the virtue signalling, happy clapping on here so much. Yes, we had squad issues today. But he's paid the big bucks to think around them. He fundamentally failed to his job. The starting 11 today was pure suicide. 1 midfielder against Forest is like something a ten year old would think up! That's before we even get into the players clearly not playing for him or the cowardly hiding at the end. Sack him tonight. Get an experienced manager in like Cooper on a short contract. Be competitive and push for 8th. Go again in the summer.

I would have played 3-5-1-1

Webster, dunk & jpvh. Packed 3 midfielders in front of then. Velts on right & tariq on the left

& made sure forest didn't run riot through the middle

& I'd have dropped Bart for anyone who was available
I would of done similar

Well, what I’d do is have the players in tomorrow morning for post-match analysis, dissecting the performance in minutiae. Then I’d have a training session and making it clear I’m expecting graft and a positive response to our humbling.

Then I would do the same thing Monday and then the day before the game, so it’s fresh in the player’s minds that such a poor performance will not stand.

Then I’d pick my team based on performance in training this week.

That’s what I’d do.

Should have started with 2 central midfielders. The defence was hideously exposed today. Why do we never counter attack especially when you see every team in this league do it? We have the players for it aswell ? Naive and/or arrrogant tactics?

A defense exposed - a defense, for whatever reason, had a left back out of position for the first, a set piece corner, a defender wrestling a player to the ground from a set piece corner and a goalkeeper passing to one of their players at the edge of our own box. Not sure them being exposed can be claimed for at least 4 of the goals.....
