Okay, worst result in decades, but does it matter? Not to me, no - it would be far more worrying if it was a regular occurrence, but it simply isn't.
The knee-jerk/wetting posts on here have me laughing, and there's no doubt that I needed a bit of cheer, after that.
All said and done, we're still doing 'reasonably' well...in the Prem, of all places.
Knock Chelsea out next week and the mood will be entirely different - quelle surprise.

Of course, an isolated drubbing on its own need not matter, but I do wonder what things are really like behind the scenes. We don’t know. A lot will obviously depend on what happens over the rest of the season. I do, however, get the impression from my comfortable sofa that perhaps FB hasn’t got the air of authority that a successful manager should have with his players. I may be mistaken, but is he in awe, or just scared of dropping Dunk, for instance. Does he lack the strength of character that is required to be the boss of a Prem club?

Someone on BBC Sussex post-match made a point that nobody was calling for the manager's head after three wins in a row before last week.

Ultimately the biggest gripe people seem to have is that we're not going to get into Europe next season. Thus making this the same as 122 of the last 123 seasons.
The Man Utd game is the one where we’ve played well.

But for me it’s the points we’ve thrown away and the unconvincing performances. Even the Ipswich win saw us register an xG of just 0.87.

We’ve shown little guile and little evidence of being able to break down a team. When it comes to big chances missed we are 13th in the table. So it’s not as if we are unlucky.

If Fab is going to survive he’s got to get his team taking shots that cause the keeper some trouble. Those shots don’t have to happen inside the box. And we need our wide players to do a little less crossing the ball into the box and a bit more squaring the ball into the six yard box where we can cause trouble.

We are just not finding ways to create chances and Fab is looking increasingly desperate - hence today’s strange staring line up.

To me it matters. Every result matters. Today's could go either way in terms of rest of season. Beat Chelsea and yes, things will be rosy going into next round of cup but lose and, possibly lose heavily, our fragile confidence will ebb further.
Of course it 'matters' - we're all fans ( apart from certain posters), but don't call for the manager's head so quickly. As I mentioned, until recently, we had lost fewer games than all except Liverpool and Arsenal....what do people really want?

I really think that it doesn't matter in the great scheme of things. Awful result yes, season ending-no.
Its still just our 5th loss after 24 games, mid table, no chance of relegation and a now very outside chane of Europe.
I am more upset by the points dropped from games that realistically we should have won, than this one. These results happen occasionally and for us in particular its very very occasionally.

No, it doesn't.

The first half wasn't a 3-0 - despite the crazy line-up - everything went for them and absolutely nothing went for us.

At the beginning of the second, we were the better side, couldn't find a goal and then got hit as we chased. Heads and morals dropped, and they took full advantage.

What hurts us is all the other points we've thrown away. If we've got 6-8 points more, we put it down as "one of those days", reflect we're well-placed and move on.
Absolutely spot on.

Ultimately NO - it's 3 points lost which was the same as last week.

It's the manner of defeat that is worrying. No consistency in team selection (yes, largely due to injuries) means every week it seems that players are having to get used to a new face beside them or infront of them.

A defeat of this nature can kill confidence which we obviously all hope it doesn't. With all the injuries we have it's a good job we have the points we already do as mid table (which would be fine for me) could be difficult if we don't start to turn things around.

If you were dying, through a death by a thousand cuts. And in the middle of that process, someone fired a rocket at you that blew you to smithereens.

You were dying anyway.

- Confucious (probably, if rocket launchers had been invented then)

If there were genuine signs of a plan, or him really getting his message across, or players improving, I’d say no it doesn’t. My feeling is we are going backwards. Is it really our job to give a manager with potential the opportunity to learn on the job, and at what cost?
It’s the model - we invest in potential. If one day we have a 50,000+ seater stadium and a Saudi owner, we can pay £££££s for the finished article.
