50 years of playing football and squash have left my knees completely f***ed. I still try and play a form of football Friday afternoons for an hour and a half and by Saturday my knees are like bloody balloons. Walking to Mill Road from my house, standing on the bus up to the stadium, standing in the North Stand Concourse for a pint, and then going up those bloody stairs to stand at my seat (and it's been confirmed, i'll have a 'safe standing rail') throughout the game, making the most of my padded seat for 10 mins at half time.

Final whistle, back down the stairs to standing in the North Stand Concourse for a couple of pints, walking up and then standing in the queue for the Mill Road P&R, standing on the bus, by the time I get to walk home from the Dyke roundabout, I'm doing an impression of John Wayne with the worst case of piles known to man 😲

I'm not looking for sympathy, but I wonder at times if I should just accept the inevitable and get a 1901 seat with parking

Then we pull out a great performance, beat someone unexpected and the North is the only place to be :albion2:
Wimp! Try going up to the WSU. I have sussed that the staircase at rear of the West stand is two flights less than the one in North West corner!

Their 'you've only come to see the Chelsea' chant will make them look like bellends with a half empty home end.

Whereas our chant of 'You only live around the corner' will be pretty apt for this one.

Rory Jennings or will be all over this I reckon...

If I could afford both the cup and the league games I'd go to both but I can't so I chose the cup game, it's a 14 hour round trip for us by car so it's not cheap, I'm sure they'll be enough Brighton fans on hand to boo everything Chelsea touch on the day.

Brighton
Seems a poor response from Albion fans
I don't like the time but didn't think of missing the match
Why is it a poor response?

Terrible time for a game, dire transport, no guarantee you’ll be home anytime before midnight if it goes to pens (and that’s if you live in Brighton!)

Club, FA and TV should take this on the chin.

And we’re back for another 8pm with Chelsea the following week. No thanks.

There is an irony here in that we played man utd away in the quarter finals 2017 which as a Saturday evening KO. I was interviewed on bbc radio sussex that morning and I explained that my two sons were going and wouldn't be able to play for their teams the next morning as a 3am arrival homes wasn't conducive to being in Pevensey for 9am the next morning for a 10am ko. I think I said it was a daft time for a match.

Paul Barber (who was also on the programme)picked me up on it and said that supporter surveys supported that time ko. That I needed to move with the times and the new tv deal for prem games would also include that slot and that as we had sold out a large allocated for the game my concerns were unwarranted

As it was, old trafford was full of tourists and didn't sell out either (there were thousands of empty seats despite man utd saying it was a capacity crowd) and it was that game that led to utd enforcing the season tickets must attend cup ties rule

Multi Millionaire Paul Barber, paid to watch football matches, out of touch what it's like to be a paying supporter? Surely not?

Giving more seats to Chelsea is a childish, cynical and insulting move by the club. The money this generates is chicken feed (TV money, talk of £55 million transfers etc) Also, this will now require a larger police presence which the club will be billed for.

It’s common knowledge that a) they can certainly make a noise when they want to (not a crime, but that’s all we’ll hear on the box) and b) their fans are peasants and WILL misbehave.

I can only see this as a move by the club to guilt trip those not going (“Right! You don’t want them so we’re giving them to Chelsea!”)

My boy (15) is going on his own and I’m now (for the first time) concerned for his safety.

We know the club is aware of the "bad look" of empty seats to the TV cameras - they consistently work hard to sell those previously hard-to-fill seats in the ESL immediately next to the away fans.

So, I assume this move is recognising those blocks were going to very "gappy", but giving them to Chelsea resolves that.

Closing sales off in the WSU will also serve to boost sales in the East, which is in full view of the TV audience.

Supporter surveys? I don‘t believe supporters voted for it.

Chelsea fans are going to be absolutely unbearable on the night. It will be like an away game for us. I hope we stuff em.

The main issue is, as ever, the transport. I can't think of a worse ground in the entire league for getting away from a match. I live in London, but I've decided to go. If it does go to extra time/pens, it will be impossible to get back to Brighton station until 11.15/11.30. There are only a few trains back to London after that time. With 5k+ Chelsea fans at the match, it will be carnage.

How exactly were they planning on enforcing that rule?

None of that matters though compared to being able to say in a shiny brochure to potential advertisers that the Amex was at 95% capacity for 100% of games in the 2024-25 season. The same reason why tickets sold are used for attendance figures rather than actual attendance

Not a good look to outsiders, though,

I remember Newcastle fans laughing when our match against Palace was postponed due to train issues.

(Of course, they don't understand the 'unique' Amex setup)

The six and a half hour drive home in heavy snow was genuinely scary.

The 'main issue' would be instantly negated by any normal ko time up to 5.30pm
