1. Ignored a foul on Mitoma at the NW corner late in the game
2. fell for the time wasting antics and fake injuries for the entire game
3. didn’t review when VH was punched by Pickford who missed the ball
4. Not sure why Pedro was booked - looked like the Everton defender ran at him?
5. Correctly booked Baleba for a body style check on an Everton player but ignored an exact identical check by Everton in the second half.
6. Let’s not discuss the “clear and obvious” penalty error
7. booking the Everton scorer for flapping like a seagull 🤦‍♂️

…apart from the above he was ok.
3. He would only review if VAR asked him to
6. Right decision was reached - whether VAR should have intervened isn’t his call/fault

Was it?

JV was fouled. It was “soft” but you can’t pull a player back from behind them from their shoulder. I played centre back. That was my standard soft foul against a quicker opponent.

Lineker nailed it. At full speed it’s a foul. And yet the ref gave a corner :lolol:

It was te Everton players in his ear that started the whole penalty scenario. He gave a corner.

refereeing is utter shit, amateurish, not to the rules, and worst of all, embarrassingly inconsistent.

add VAR to the mix and you have a Hindustan Ambassador built by Lada and maintained by Moskvitch

this is the last decent ref I remember. . . .and still the benchmark.
If he had been an English ref with a complete makeover fans would then be targeting him like others.

English referees have been well appointed by UEFA and FIFA over the years. Which is the benchmark. Some folk have said that ours are not as good as those on the mainland, so why are ours so in demand ?

There has only been the odd match this year where it is clear a referee was wrong for me. But it happens and I accept it. Makes my life easier, means I have less to rage about.

And if all 20 Premier League Club's fans think refs are against their team then it means all is well.

Refs will always make errors and will keep making errors because it will never be an accept science. Not at the pace the game is played. Once folk just accept that then they can find something more worthy to get flustered over.

Soft enough to not be a foul imo
Either way, it means Robinson isn’t really the villain

Where does Attwell's performances sit with you. Too many one sided decisions not to have an issue with us. Multiple obvious things against us either when he refs or is on VAR. Many are really shocking. He so consistantly against us

I think this might be clouded by his clangers at Tottenham.

It's interesting to note that Newcastle, Arsenal and Chelsea have worse records than Albion under Attwell. Our record is pretty decent relative to our overall Premier League standing.

I think Attwell may have refereed against us more than any other ref, thus he is more noticeable.

Our record under him is:

Played 27 Won 13 Drawn 7 Lost 7

Which is a lower European level return.

I could argue he has a soft spot for Tottenham, given they do rather well under him. But I wouldn't subscribe to such conspiracy. The league monitor ref performances and they are conscious of it. Can refs be influenced by home crowds ? I think it can happen. But it's human in a fluid situation of emotion. That's why I cut them so much slack.

The way in which refs are abused is appalling. And the game will suffer in the long run when less come through because of it. It has to stop.

Apart from when he's not.

Joint 2nd highest win % ref for us in PL games according to WhoScored

The Tottenham defeat being the clanger from which some of this arises.

'Can you ref us every week ?' :ROFLMAO:

Yes, he was poor but number 7 in that list annoys me. A fabricated story to make refs look bad that’s now being repeated endlessly. N’Diaye was clearly booked, quite rightly, for deliberately going out of his way (off the pitch) to incite the home fans in the North Stand and then continue that for a fair distance down the West Stand. Flapping his arms was pretty much irrelevant. The unnecessary route he took after scoring made it a pretty bog standard booking in any game. He could have been making love hearts at the crowd and he’d still have got a yellow.

Can’t we just use foreign refs and our refs ref foreign matches?

Wouldn’t that get rid of this thing where every game one set of fans cries foul play?

i believe refs have to declare teams they favour/support but not ones they dont! Maybe he has more Portscumouthy fans in his neck of the woods than Albion fans but how could we possibly know he hates Brighton?

There was a classic Veltman fall (which probably was a foul too) in the first half before the penalty and he didn't give that. I knew we were doomed from that point on.

This is mental. Let's not turn into Arsenal with their pathetic little conspiracy theories (which are still going on this weekend, and even this morning I've seen one of their fans tweeting about Veltman and Rice AGAIN). Let's be honest: if he'd given a controversial decision that had gone in our favour, there would have been Everton fans screaming that "he lives in Sussex! He must be biased!". Refs have to live somewhere, and frankly I don't care if they have a rented apartment overlooking the Etihad so long as they do their job.

Yes, Everton took the piss, but there were plenty of occasions where they tried to claim fouls and he told them to get up and get on with it. He let us play on when one of them was down with another fake injury rather than falling for it and stopping the game like I've seen plenty of referees do. He booked Pickford a lot earlier in the second half than some refs would, and I'm quite prepared to remove my blue tinted spectacles and accept that the penalty decision was correct. If an Everton player had done the same, we'd have been shouting the place down in expectation of a penalty. In my opinion, Veltman gambled on winning the foul and, for once in his life, lost.

We didn't lose that game because of refereeing: we lost it because, not for the first time, we had tonnes of decent possession but could not for the life of us work out how to get round the giant double decker bendy bus that was parked across their penalty area, and a few of our players (hello Joao Pedro) spent more time sulking than coming up with effective solutions. Everton may be utterly turgid to watch but they've remembered how to defend again, and it's on us, not them, to overcome that.

It has happened in the past when Bournemouth were gifted ridiculous decisions by 'Hoops', citing his home in Wiltshire.
Ok, it's not Dorset, but close enough.
It's what fans do.

Whatever complaints OP or anyone else has about the ref are immaterial. We were just so, so bad, only a referee in an Albion shirt could have saved us (and even then, maybe not).

This is hardly Attwell at Spurs, when we outplayed our opponents and were denied by a succession of bizarre decisions. We were terrible and didn't deserve to win.
