[Albion] No Veltman, no party

It's not really. He makes the most of the contact that he 'buys' - he doesn't just dive over nothing. And it's noticeable that most of his opponents don't actually protest all that much - they know they've been conned into slightly fouling him, which he then exaggerates.
I can’t believe anybody buys this nonsense. It’s cheating.

Diving is cheating. Buying a foul isn't, it's game management. I feel the same with opposition players - Delap was just pushing everyone around, Zaha dived quite a lot - but when VAR came in he stopped diving (in the main) - but still got 'fouled' a lot by making sure he was in the right place doing the right thing. I sneakily admired him for the way he cleaned up his act.

It's a like the difference between telling an outright lie intended to deceive / con someone - and telling a white fib to oil/smooth social interactions.

The dull part of the south coast
I love the contrast with how he comes across in his post-match interviews. He just seems so normal, down to Earth, and NICE. Maybe the odd trace of a smirk or a knowing twinkle in his eyes if you're really looking for it, but the casual observer would have no clue that he's an absolute sh1t on the pitch :lolol:
I can imagine that helps with the refs too - he'll be warm and chatty with them, so they'll give him the benefit of doubt on the pitch.

LOVE HIM.
Shakespeare’s Richard the Third quote sums up Joel beautifully - “ I can smile, and murder while I smile.”

Cheers.

It's not diving, it's intelligent play. Pedro dives, which I hate. Please understand where we are all coming from with this. If it was diving, we'd hate it.
Of course he dives. Cheats. Being a fan of a team doesnt mean you need to choose to be blind or whitewash reality.

We'll see what the future holds for Veltman. More and more of his football is based on using every trick in the book. He's very good at it but its a sign that time is doing a job on him.

Would love to see him another year but at the same time I could see a world where the club wants to refurbish and take a difficult decision or two.

Good players but not even the beginnings of close
I know memory can play tricks, rose coloured specs and all that, but I remember Gregory as an excellent right back for us under Mullers. Gained several England caps too I think.
For me, a better player than Veltman.
Bruno was a different type of fullback from Joel but I would also prefer him.
That's not to say that Joel isn't an excellent player now.

As I said, good players. But we're at a much higher level now & he's our most influential & unmissable player. We're absolutely unglued without him.
Bruno had a similar effect but this is a far, far better team

Velts has been and is integral to the greatest ever Albion XI’s. Incredible consistency over 4.5 seasons. Visibly at games it‘s glaringly obvious, when he plays, far more often not our right side is shored up. When he doesn’t, it’s often our achilles heel.

He’s as good as any Albion defender in my 50 Albion seasons, a great who walks into my all time Albion XI.

You’re arguing over different types of cheese. Ultimately they’re still all cheese, you may just have a preferred type.
