So many other teams are full of players trained in the dark arts, while we have only one. But he's the master.
I think that does a dis-service to Welbeck's best efforts, as well as our South American contingent - Pervis, Pedro, Enciso, Buonnanotte all look for it, maybe none as subtle as Veltman but the dark arts are in their football dna

I'm sure they do things I don't notice, so I'm not claiming to know much. Pedro, Enciso and Facundo sometimes go down without to much contact. I'm not sure if they have much more than that. Pervis has completely passed me by. But Veltman seems to have it all. He's smart, he's up for a fight if need be, he'll wind the opposition up, and he'll get into the right position where it's inevitable he'll be fouled.

The twat Delap was completely out of order, and that would put many players off their game, but Veltman relishes a willing opponent.

Wonderful player, wonderful man.

Little Joel story - after the open training session last season, he (and Solly) spent absolutely ages signing autographs and getting photos with kids including with my boys. They were younger and smaller than most of the other kids getting photos so kept getting pushed out by the other kids (and parents!) but Joel noticed and called them to the front and we got a great photo that made the boys day. Little things.

One of the best bits of business the club has ever done. One of the best, if not the best, right backs we have ever had. It will be him keeping us in the top half as much as anyone else. I hope we don’t let him go home like we did Gross.

I love the contrast with how he comes across in his post-match interviews. He just seems so normal, down to Earth, and NICE. Maybe the odd trace of a smirk or a knowing twinkle in his eyes if you're really looking for it, but the casual observer would have no clue that he's an absolute sh1t on the pitch :lolol:
I can imagine that helps with the refs too - he'll be warm and chatty with them, so they'll give him the benefit of doubt on the pitch.

LOVE HIM.
Mark Hughes was the epitome of that. Such a quiet nicely spoken chap away from the pitch, but an absolute animal on it.
