Indeed I do, which is why I have to take any opportunity I can when we’re above you, even at the risk of last season’s finale. 😉
Wrong answer. The correct one was "Loz, you do know Brighton have finished in the European positions and played competitively in Europe? Have you ever seen a Palace in the Dam?"

And do you know palace finished 3rd in a European place but were cheated out of it by Liverpools early inclusion when they were serving a ban.

No I haven’t seen palace in the Dam , and yes I was suitably jealous 😤

Was Liverpool's ban lifted after the season had ended?

So at best for you, we're level on paper but have had more fun and glory in practice  Glad we could clear that up

I really can’t remember but I do know Noads was not best pleased at the time.

TBH I had 3 young kids, 12% interest rate on a mortgage that was worth more than my house and a poll tax I couldn’t afford….football and travelling to Europe was out of the question any how.

Noads was just making capital out of a good finish.

You weren't cheated out of European football, It was already known that Liverpool would have their ban lifted. that season
There were only 2 European places that season. Liverpool qualified for Europe, (comfortably) by right.

Imagine that your arch rivals have just won their first league game in nearly two months, you’ve beaten them at their place and you’re unbeaten in four. Marvellous, yes?

But no, you’re still a whole 7 (seven) points behind them in the league table with less than half the season to go...

This time last year Brighton had a 9 point lead over palace, so best wait till the end of the season?

Just had a look at the April/May fixtures.

Doesn't look like many of your fixtures will be against teams on the beach this time round.
Let’s wait until the end of the season before either set of fans can claim who had the better season, I think at one point Brighton were 13 points above palace last season.

Apart from Aston Villa ( clearly jaded from long celebrations) I don’t believe teams at elite level go “on the beach” especially at 2 million + per position. All sportsman want to win it’s in their makeup that’s how they become top of their game.

Really?
Teams don't stop fighting for every point, when there is nothing to play for but a couple of places in mid-table?

You should have come to a few of our games at the end of last season.

Try telling that to the Brighton squad who couldn't win the sodding Championship needing only 1 win from 3 remaining games.

Buncha amateurs.

Of course they do. Unless there is something tangible riding on a result, the players attentions clearly turn to other things. You can't tell me that the Man Utd you played were the same Man Utd who played earlier in the season when expectations were different, and with a cup final looming? Or Wolves & West Ham who had already avoided relegation and were with no chance of Europe. Newcastle's fate had also been sealed by then. They were ALL on the beach.

We will have to agree to disagree.

The limited time I have had with elite sports people is that to get to the top they are very focused on winning, as one said to me once that’s how injury’s happen when not concentrating.

Teams going on the beach, are in my view stealing money off the fans and clubs.

Incorrect, it was only decided after the season had finished and Liverpool and the FA went to UEFA and asked for the ban to be lifted, so yes we were cheated out of European football.
We finished 3rd in the top division. That would now get Champions league football

Newcastle still had hopes of Europe until the final game of the season

Incorrect, the decision was made in April 1991 whilst the season was still going,.
Liverpool and the FA had been lobbying UEFA all season. There remained a possibility that Liverpool would be eligible for European football in the 91/92.
Most people knew full well what was going to happen.

In reality, you missed out on european competition because you didn't have enough points.
Decent finish in the table though.
You'll always have that.

I shall agree to disagree with you but reeeeally politely.

”On the beach” is definitely a harsh term and I’d probably agree that professional sportspeople don’t do it.

However, what I think does happen is that if you pit two teams against each other and only one of those has something tangible to play for, that team’s overall performance level is likely to be higher. Perhaps it might only be by a matter of a few percentage points but in a game of fine margins, that is likely to make all the difference.

So while most of your opponents at the tail end of last season were not “on the beach”, their performance almost certainly lacked the intensity expected in a genuinely competitive fixture.
