'Direct Lines' by Electronic Circus. Written by Chris Payne from Lancing. Chris was the original keyboard player with Gary Numan, and also wrote 'Fade to Grey' with Billy Currie and Midge Ure. (I was the other keyboard player in Electronic Circus). This was released on the back of Fade to Grey with the hope that it would be equally successful. Spoiler alert - it wasn't.

However although it sunk without trace in 1981 about ten years ago someone put a version up on YouTube. This got over a million plays and over ten thousand likes with loads of people hailing it as 'minimal synth' classic and saying they brought the original when it came out. No they didn't the lying bastards.

That version has sadly been taken down, at least I couldn't find it, so you'll just have to take my word for it. However when I googled it just now I found TEN others had been put up. Here's one:

Ok, this is far too modern, but obviously a lot of people here who know the local music scene much better than me. I have never understood how this band couldn't even get a record deal, the lead singer especially. Fabulous and distinctive voice. They brought out an album under their own steam I think, which was great and then re-formed to release an EP a couple of years back. This is a slightly stripped down version of a brilliant song from the album. Wonder if anyone here knows them/more about the mystery of why she's not a star:

Sussex, by the sea
Used to go to the Half Brick in East Worthing. Saw a band caled The Desperate Dan Band, and after 6/7 pints of Guinness they seemed good. I know what happened to the Half Brick (Boo!) but I know nothing of the band, sadly.
They're still going!

Lasat time I saw Stu Parks ( T-Bones and Woodbine) was a Sunday afternoon with Dave, and Bob Brookes from the DDB

I saw Bob in September with Miller Anderson . . . . Another Sussex local, althoiugh Scottish, he's lived down here over 45 years.

Anyone recall the "Drivers" who played in many pubs and other venues in the Kent/Sussex border country? Best described as a"Power Pop" trio with Jam/Police influences. Most of their material was written by them - catchy and witty 3 minute tunes,

Front man Nick Van Eede went on to form "Cutting Crew and had a massive hit with "....Just Died In Your Arms ....." . Large hit in North America....

I presume a lot of people will have already seen it, but Johnny Helmer has posted a dump of old photos from the time on his f/b page.

It seems to be public, so here's the link

Please delete if this isn't acceptable.

Great pix. Anyone spot themself in a pic?

Also, and I'm sure he won't mind me mentioning it, the sax player in the Darts/Rocky Sharpe was another Lancing (and Boundstone) boy - our very own Horatio @Hornblower.
