What has happened to JPVH?
Gone from top class to mistake ridden.
Very poor tonight.

They sounded pretty good on TV.
I think mr Jan Paul is quite tired psychologically and physically and I don't think there's more than that to it. He is our best defender by a fair margin and we're struggling to afford to give him any rest. Its just a constant stream of running, fighting and desperately defending a defensively wonky team.

How has the BBC come to this conclusion? I'm not sure I even noticed him.

I can go with this one. BBC ratings are sh!te. This is because they are generated by fans who know less about the game than they think they know, and post in the heat of the game when their emotions are running high. MOR probably got that rating because he was on the pitch during our best spell of the game whereas others endured the 40/50 minutes when we weren't up to much but were at least resilient.
I'd go with Lamptey -- not because of the goal but that gives him a bonus, particularly from where he hit the ball in relation to his position on the pitch, but for his tackling, tracking and overall defending, and that's not something I've said too much of late. Mitoma was also devastating when he came on.

He might have needed to get the wound on his head properly seen to ASAP....?
I hope so - but I'm not so sure it was as simple as that - there was no hint of medical personnel or treatment, but it appeared to me at least that Veltman initially was encouraging him to stay on the pitch, be part of the acknowledgement between players and fans - he stayed in his same spot and was present without joining in. Doesn't mean he is sulking or there is an issue, but for someone who in many moments of games looks to engage the fans, even jump into the crowd, it looked awkward. Doesn't mean there has to be an issue, and I'm generally not into conspiracy theories etc. but it was noticeable to me.

Doesn’t say much for the quality of our players if a defender is making poor decisions because he’s “tired” “psychologically“ and “physically” - we’ve only played 19 games albeit with us pressing with a high defensive line a lot of the time - but if a defender can’t cope with physically tracking back from that then they are not up to the level required imo.

I don’t think it’s necessarily a fatigue issue personally -

VH is not good playing a right sided defender in a back 3 - which was effectively the shape with Lamptey playing in such a forward position, it leaves VH covering the wide areas at the back.

(Similar problem of weakness in our left defence when Pervis plays high as he did against Brentford and is too slow to track back - it leaves gaping holes at the back that can be exploited).

VH has to learn to adapt to 3 at the back when FH reverts to a more attacking shape but I think he had a good game on the whole and made some very important blocks/defensive tackles.

Soft if given, but still think Bart should have caught that.

One of the Villa players (can't remember who) jumps with Bart, with his arm up, and it connected with Bart's arms, making him drop it. They're usually given as a foul on the keeper, who tends to get more protection that others.
