Have we got lucky with no red cards for Pervis v West Ham and Pedro tonight? They could have both easily have gone against us probably changing the result in both and having 2 x 3 match suspensions for important players.

I personally thought Pervis was a red but tonight's wasn't as he didn't make contact (I don't think).

Pervis got quite a lot of the ball, so can't see that being overturned by VAR.

Brentford seem quite insistent that Pedro should have seen red. It would be really strange if someone was sent off for completely missing someone with an elbow, having said that though if he threw a punch and missed you would still expect the red. But in this case I think his 'elbow' was controlled enough that there wasn't intent to hit him.....

Watched on TV tonight. Seemed to be consensus that as no contact made he shouldn’t be sent off. That was the ex ref and commentators views but I think everyone could agree it was a stupid thing to do.
Having been at West Ham I thought it was a red then and still do now.

Yes incredibly lucky.

The case tonight is one where the club should step in and ban the player.

Both getting a red card (which would have been the case if he had hit) and a perhaps 2 months long suspension and trying to elbow another player in the face is completely unacceptable and needs to be labelled and treated as such.

Clattenburg explained that it couldn't be a red, under the rules of the game, as there was no contact.

He said intent has nothing to do with it, so whether Pedro did intend to connect or not, makes no difference.

So tonight seems to be a cast-iron non-red by the letter of the law.

I think if he threw a punch and missed it would be very surprising if a red wasn't shown.

But I don1 think Pedro's elbow was that close to the guy in the end, he seemed to have it controlled and it was more an act of frustration than intent to hit anyone

Very odd because I’ve just posted the relevant Law and guidelines and they contradict this.

The only thing I am thinking is that he assessed it as “Serious Foul Play” rather than “Violent Conduct”.

So the elbow missed. Did their player then go down injured, from no contact? Or was it someone else on the floor?

What have you been smoking tonight?! It was never a red card. He was never in danger of hitting his head. Petulant maybe but not violent or likely to connect .
