First man on GPs lineup once he returned from the shoulder injury that troubled him back in 19/20. CH had played him in a slightly more attacking role, but Potter put him as DMC and he immediately made the place his after a MoM display against Palace in December '19.

Wonder why no one has backed up their claims about Baleba being better than Brighton-Biss statistically? Maybe one of those "doesn't matter, I trust my own eyes" times. Fair enough. But its hard to take seriously when Biss in his Brighton days outperformed anything Caicedo, Mac Allister or Baleba did in nearly every single defensive metric.

He's a world class ball winner when at his best and if there's any chance getting him in, we should try to do anything it takes.

Baleba can become equally good, but he's some way off and also not someone we can build our midfield around since we're not going to be able to keep him. Bringing in a 28-year-old Biss for 5 years would solve a lot of headaches for a long time. Like a Veltman signing.

Baleba is better when it comes to creating chances though. In terms of quality and abilities I think he's more comparable to Dale Stephens, great ball winner and playmaker but not topping any charts in any category (yet).
Gross was the first name on Potter’s team sheet - you said so yourself. The genius of playing six midfielders was, in reality, a throw of the dice to halt an appalling run of results. Bissouma was holding in the 0-3 defeat to Burnley that started it, a game as poor as any under RDZ or FH.

Yes, his defensive stats, particularly tackling and interceptions were good, but, as I said, he had the worst shooting stats in the squad and thought he could score from 35 yards out at will.

A good player and crowd favourite at the time but Gross was more important and Caicedo simply better. Mwepu could have been had it not been for a tragic illness and Baleba will end up better all round than Biss, though he’s not there yet.

Pascal Gross was sparesly used and most often on the right wing in 19/20, with Pröpper and Stephens playing centrally until Biss was fully fit. He was the best player that not-so-good spring and then dominated midfields throughout 20/21 before having a slightly worse 21/22.

This is a normal Biss performance for us in some random game. We really don't have that level of composure and control in our current lot.

In 19/20 Gross played 31 times in total compared to Bissouma’s 23. And that was despite us having Mooy in the squad who was basically the same player as Gross but with less charisma.

Over Potter’s three full seasons Gross and Bissouma played a very similar number of games and both would have had injuries and suspensions.

Pascal Gross was fit all of 19/20 but started only 21 games in the league and spent a lot of time on the bench, particularly in the second half of the season.

Biss struggled with a shoulder injury for months but once he wad fully fit he smashed his way into the team.

It is correct they played similar amount of games overall. Not sure what that has to do with anything at all though.

For me peak Bissouma on his day was "better" than all others mentioned.

The main issue was his consistency, he either put in a 9 out of 10 or a 6. Similar to recent form for Baleba.

Caicedo was an 8 every game, extremely consistent, quietly going about his business to a high level.

There was a reasonably long period of games where Biss was a 9 every game though and felt like we were playing with 12 men, completely running games. That's how I like to remember him.

This was probably the same period where Lineker kept mentioning him on MOTD, Twitter etc

I think Baleba has a chance of being better than peak Biss though as he's shown much faster development than Biss did.

Here you go, I've made the point statistically. Per 90 stats for Baleba this season Vs Biss 21/22.

They're both very similar, but Baleba is better going forward.
