With Sadiq khan getting a knighthood its clear they're rewarding failure so this makes sense

Many politicians get a knighthood now just for doing their jobs, so why not give it to a manager that did quite well but never won anything.

By any measure he is the second most successful England manager in history.

He has also done that with dignity and humility.

Just because he is ex Palace and didn't pick Brighton players (generally) doesn't mean we can't respect what he achieved. He gave me some of my best England supporting moments ever. For that I'd happily knight him. Southgate you're the one.

Hang on a minute, someone above said that him being knighted is like Putin being given the Nobel Peace Prize.

How can both of these things be true?

I think people have forgotten how much the English national team had underachieved in the 50 years prior to 2016. Two major-tournament semis and quite a few tournaments we didn’t even qualify for.

England qualified with ease for every tournament under Southgate. I don’t think we even lost a qualifier in 4 tournaments.

England’s 4 opponents for Euro 2024 qualifiers included the Euro 2021 champions and one of the quarter finalists.

Re-elected for a 3rd term earlier this year, so people of London don’t seem to think so.
