According to Radio 2 news this morning today s the last day to apply for WFA credit. They interviewed a pensioner who said it is a 20 page questionnaire with 240 questions. Many of the answers require financial proof of income, savings etc. so it's perhaps understandable why so many needy pensioners can't, or won't, attempt such a document.
Technically, it's the last day to apply for pension credit in order to qualify for WFA. As for the questionnaire, there are helplines and I would also suspect most pensioners will have family that can help out. Also, your post seems to imply that pensioners are all incapable of filling in a questionnaire.

And where do I state ALL pensioners are incapable of filling out a questionnaire? Common sense should tell you some of us 'older' persons like to keep some privacy from either the state, our families or outsiders.

No, you didn't specifically state all pensioners but the impression I got from your comment was that you thought the length of the form (rather than the questions asked) was, possibly too onerous.

As to keeping info to yourself, ok, that's your choice but keep your privacy and pay for your own fuel! Can't have it both ways. If I have to apply for benefits, as I'm sure most people would, I'd expect to provide information to the government to justify it.

Wow - that's all I can say really!*

Now apply that logic to someone claiming Universal Credit and see what sort of response you get. I'm guessing it might include the words, cheat, scroungers and a host of similar!

*making an assumption I've not been whooshed!

Whilst you centrists argue against yourselves I see the appointment of Mandy, the absolute moron, as US Ambassador is going down well with Trump's campaign. 😲

It’s going down badly because that’s the message this Government have wanted to send to Donald Trump by appointing Mandelson is f*** you.

Mandelson has not been very political in his views of Trump labelling him amongst other things a white supremacist.

Mandelson is an avowed EU enthusiast, it’s unlikely he will be on the same page as Trump on any bilateral matters.

Mandelson, and perhaps this may be most significant of all, was very well connected to Epstein. Whilst there’s no indication he was part of any abuse, but Mandelson was staying with Epstein even when the charges had been made public. In the eyes of many Americans Keir may as well have appointed Prince Andrew.

What an absolute moron.
Mandelson was the ideal candidate to lead the renegotiations with the EU and absolutely the last person to make US ambassador. This decision would be astonishing if it wasn’t so inevitable from Starmer. I thought David Milliband was being mooted for this role?

Interesting take! You'd like a grant, but don't want to provide personal information to justify receiving it? I think that basically it's a choice here - either you provide the state with information that they probably already have anyway, or you don't receive government funding to help. I think that most of us have been in that situation at some point whether it be student grants, the dole, housing benefit, loans, pensions, tax returns and so on. Not many would choose to opt out - but that's up to each individual.

I think we just need to ask more about how so many people have come to be in those positions in the first place. Chucking people 200 pounds a year isn't going to change the underlying issues or prevent this continuing in the future. Energy prices are too high, housing is too expensive, wage inequality continues to rise, food prices are rising, it's hard to save money. I don't know if the current government can change course but we need to get to a place where large swathes of society are not relying on handouts but live in a country where they don't need them.
It's going to be an awfully long time before we reach the position where pensioners don't need handouts. Do you think there will ever be a time when pensioners have so much other income that they don't need a state pension?
