The 1970 FA Cup Final is the first I can remember watching when I was 8 years old. Two great games of football. Given a bit of time I could name both line ups. I can remember all the 1970s cup finals ... but ask me which teams were playing in recent finals and I couldn't tell you :D
Yeah, it's been said many times that the FA Cup "isn't what it used to be". In those simpler times it was the ONLY club game that was ever broadcast live. I too couldn't name any recent finalists. Man City is probably a good guess.

I was a Brighton fan and a Goldstone (semi)regular in 1970, but Chelsea were my 'big' team and also pre-dated my Brighton allegiance. I was nearly 13 and I can still remember how emotional I was when Chelsea won - how I'd love to experience that with the Albion. Norwich away will be our biggest game of the season to date.

Ronaldo the first, Ronaldinho, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Romario.

Lots of legendary Brazilians beginning with R in the late 90's/early 00's.

Peter Bonnetti, Ron Harris, Eddie McCreadie, John Hollins, John Dempsey, David Webb, Tommy Baldwin, Charlie Cooke, Peter Osgood, Ian Hutchinson and Peter Houseman.

(With apologies to @Harry Wilson's tackle who may recognise that team from 1970!)

EDIT: Got to add Bobby Charlton, Pele and George Best as well. And Alan Duffy.
I would have said Alan Duffy, then I read the Thread title again

Pretty much anyone that sparkled in Serie A when that used to be on channel 4.

Cassano, Totti, Batistuta, Veron, all of the Parma team, Maldini, Cafu, Djorkaeff, Recoba, Leonardo (in fact, all of that Milan team), Zidane, Del Piero.

The standard of football in that league, at that time, was by far and away the best in the world.

Now that you mention Serie A, I loved the chain-smoking Bisonte at Brescia (no, not that one...) Dario Hübner. What a goalscorer!!!

Has anyone named an actual, bona fide cult hero yet on this thread?
:lolol:

'a writer, musician, artist, or other public figure who is greatly admired by a relatively small audience or is influential despite limited commercial success.'

Kevin Keegan. Loved him.

I'm sure I recall that Chris Cattlin tried to persuade him to join us in the mid 80s. If that had happened I wouldn't have coped with any teenage dignity.

Alan Duffy! :lolol: (Who didn't qualify unless I try to claim he was my cult hero when he was at Newcastle - which I can't)

But yeah, fair point. I think the fact it had 'Albion' in the thread title meant people automatically thought mainly of footballers.

Greaves. Still the greatest finisher I've ever seen and scorer of the greatest goal I've ever seen against Manchester United at White Hart Lane in 1965.
