Every single manager will have a trouble with this because we're a poor man's Manchester City and the best way of winning against that kind of team is to defend deep and cut off all spaces.

This has been the case basically since the game was invented. Possession based teams struggle with it because it works. And obviously it works more often against us than against Manchester City, because we're not as good at football.

Don't expect this to change soon.

(Not a European football expert here). At our last managerial changes, it did cross my mind that TB might go down the Marco Silva-esque route. Solid defence very often, mugging teams on the counter or at set pieces.

I wouldn’t have minded that, not least for giving us a respite from us being the possession based mugged team.

Potter is pretty shite without his leaders on the pitch too.

Take this away from him and he’d have got us relegated:

The same Potter who almost pushed Mac out the club as he didn’t realise is quality.
And then said I didn’t realise how good Caciedo was
Yep get him in.
Hopefully Fabian will realise that dropping Enciso from the squad was his biggest f*** up so far

Have a day off. You’re so clueless it hurts. Like a broken record with all the negative shit you post.

Same shit over and over again for months, hoping that if you keep posting the same things someone will agree.

Last season it was Baleba. Not seen you mention him for a while now.

Potter played Mac loads. He wasn’t very good to start with but he was given a lot of minutes.

Arguably Potter’s coaching turned him into the top player he became. Same as Bissouma and others.

Just one question , if you know that why doesn`t he ?
..who?

All of our managers are aware that we're a possession based team that will frequently face and struggle with deep defences.

Everyone has their way of trying to mitigating that tactic. With Potter we patiently held the ball and waited for the opportunity. With Roberto we tried to bait the opponents to us to create some room. With Hurz we play more direct chancey passes and try to use our intensity and creativity to create chances from mistakes that happens in the chaos we want on their half of the pitch.

But no matter how its done, its still difficult. Teams that play around deep defending and rapid counters can quite often read our shenanigans. Its not enough with a good idea, enough number of players also need to play well to make it happen. Certainly not the case today.

Personally think the Hurzelian chaosball could work out eventually, though right now it just looks... unstructured.

Maybe but we cant just rely on big D , the reason he is the boss is because he is supposed to be the guy with the answers when things get tough , today was not pretty watching and he wasn`t pro-active , a good manager sees the dangers and makes changes before the game is gone .
Sure, but we started well, the first half goals were both sloppy. You can’t legislate for Lamptey particularly on the second, and the multiple errors on the first.

Hopefully or did he play him to keep his mate Diego positive.

I’m only quoting what Ali Mac said himself
It’s easy to find the interview.

Have to disagree, Mac was doing okay, but was getting left out which actually hampered his development.

We're not going to play like that because our model requires us to sell footballers to big teams, something we won't do if we play like Fulham or Brentford, because top teams doesn't want to spend £50m-£100m on a player who has only proved himself in a limited-possession counter-attack environment.

He was average to begin with and got a lot of chances but didn’t really take them.

“Okay” wasn’t good enough to be a regular first choice. And shouldn’t be.

See my screenshot above where he himself said he struggled physically and with the language.

That’s not on Potter.

Yes that doesn’t mean there were better options though, that hampered him.
Team selection is on Potter

Edit - of course it is hypothetical because it might have backfired, but given how he adapted, I would say he probably would have been ok, and let’s not forget we weren’t exactly flying around COVID time.

We were tipped for relegation by most pundits the season Alexis arrived.

He had never played a game in central midfield before coming to us. In Football Manager it might work great putting this 20-year-old winger from Argentina straight into a starting position in central midfield and everything works out fantastically well.

In reality we had one or two attacking players with any PL experience going into that season and they really really struggled and the key to staying up against the odds was the experienced and combatitive midfield with Stephens, Biss and/or Pröpper.

Getting him slowly into the team was the right way, just like it was the right way to slowly introduce Baleba last season. Just throwing random youngsters into a key role in central midfield is a dangerous game that some might afford playing but certainly not a team trying to stay up in a league.

But as per my post it happens and as always hindsight is a wonderful thing, I would say it is just as likely to have worked.
If a team is struggling sometimes you have to do something drastic for a spark.

Edit - you may play football manager but I don’t 😉😘

He was great on crosses, but if you go for every cross you miss once in a while and look like an idiot.

So people feel that a goalie who just stands on the line without making any brave/possibly erroneous decisions is better than someone who comes out and collects 9 out of 10 crosses and misses the 10th.

But hey ho, who needs a goalkeeper who collects and saves balls when you can have one who can do a rondo with Xavi. Unfortunate that we frequently go and concede 3-4 goals since swapping from the now title-chasing goalie we had to Verbruggen/Steele.

Result probably makes me bitter today but I'll take a bad Sanchez mistake every 10 games over a goalkeeper who can't firmly grip the loosest of shots and who doesn't dare have a presence in the penalty box.

Anyway, always going to be deaf ears when it comes to Robert, who was demonised by the previous manager, thus making him the Root of Evil in the eyes of the Zerbian cult members. He's a starter in a team that is much better than ours but people still pretend Jason Steele is a better keeper. Hilarious.

We put Robert on the bench after he made a mistake that only gave us 1-1 against Palace.
Today we conceded three goals against the same team, while Robert is chasing the title for Chelsea after we told him to f*** off. Funny world, I guess.
100% (and I don't always say that about your posts!)

The very recent Lineker interview.
He says he was close to leaving, but he doesn’t claim it was anything to do with Potter. Alexis admits he struggled to get to grips with the physicality of the PL and In fact he says how supportive Potter was during that first year here when he was struggling.
