Well, quite. As my earlier posts on this thread would agree. He’d walk into this team at the moment.

Where would he play though? This is our normal formation... hard to fit Billy in if we want to play with three or four number tens and one guy running around in midfield.

Is that Gilmour or Ayari?
I think Ayari is invisible at times.
I think they are similar players. With space to move into look great. When playing it out wide can look terrific. But in a claustrophobic midfield against 2 x 15 stone opponents don't enjoy the platform to show their undoubted talents

Don't think I have seen either of our right wingers get down to the byeline...
Then you need to watch more carefully.

I was thinking about putting Minteh on the pitch, but he's most frequently seen off the pitch collecting balls for the opponents throw in or goal kick after his attempted dribble or first touch.

Would he have done any better than Ayari? Made some nice passes, but nothing threatening and lost a lot of 1 v 1 battles?

I disagree, he did a lot of work that lead to assists/goals but because they weren’t all assists for him people overlook it.

Gilmour had more ability to keep possession and generally more valuable experience. I think you see the difference in when we played Man U this season to some of the subsequent games.

The problem is expecting either Ayari or Gilmour to be the whole midfield, and overlooking what they do for the things they don’t, even though the stuff they don’t do is better done by the Baleba’s or Caicedo’s that we have.

I've never seen a professional footballer spend so much of the game controlling the ball with his ankle bones.

We've basically spent 40m on a sprinter.

Aye, hence my 'swarm the football' comment yesterday. I have seen Mitoma getting a little bit of stick, but the antifootballers rushed players to him when he got the ball so was double/treble marked - he did pretty well considering that.

It is kinda why we do better against the good teams - they come to play football. We really need to get streetwise like the antifootballers too. I think we'd all have taken at least 1 point yesterday in return of a Dyche style game.
