If I lived in Hove I’d be furious at the suggestion. As it is I’m just disbelieving and a bit cross!

The arse end of Hangleton
@Gava - come on - time to call it quits. Your idea has been shredded in public on The Argus and utterly ripped apart on here. Just withdraw the petition.

As someone that was born and bred in Brighton and now lives in Hove I find it insulting that a DFL ( you're clearly not born in either town ) comes down here and tries to impose some tinpot idea like this. The suggestion that tourists find it confusing or it prevents investment in the City / Towns is ridiculous in the extreme. I very much doubt anyone decides not to invest in Scunthorpe because the word kunt is in the towns name.

Besides, anyone so stupid that they can't even post using the very straight forward forum interface suggests you're too stupid to come up with a good idea.

So, in the words of the famous ( or should that be infamous ? ) @Herr Tubthumper - just fcuk off.

Like i keep stating Hoves identity will not be lost. Its the complete opposite; Hove will thrive under the change because they will then become Hove in Brighton that will then gain more recognition for every single business, helping them financially and then helping the cities economy grow.
But earlier on, you said it's not about the money. Here it is (post 175):

'And in all honesty this isnt about money right now.'

So, in your new spirit of honesty, what is it really about?

So in recent months, we had a guy who rewrote Sussex by the Sea, because he didn’t like the original and now there’s a request to rename the city based on someone else’s personal preference/whim.

In line with this tone, I am proposing the following changes;
  • Football is renamed Worldball, to reflect that the game is played all around the world.
  • Transfer fees should be abolished and replaced by a draft system, which should be extended beyond the footballing world to all employment. You may work as an account manager for American Express now, but if you’re drafted to serve coffee at Costa, that will be your new job.
  • Time should be abolished. Instead of the 24 hour day, I propose a 168 hour week. You would express the date and time, by using the week number out of the 52 weeks of the year, and the hour in the week. So for the Albion game against Forest, instead of saying “Kick off 3pm, 1st of February”, you would say “Kick off – 5, 135”. As in it’s the 5th week of year, and the 135th hour of the week.
I’m sure you all want to know the how this would work or be implemented. But I choose to answer this using the method of a Brexiteer, and say that its not my job to come up with the details, that’s for the government to do.

On a side note, I’m totally against changing the name of the city, as that’s just bonkers.

Do be careful with that one. Albion will get confused. Against Wolves and Leicester they got the times confused and stopped playing 5 minutes before the end of the scheduled match.

This and the Starmer petition have made me realise that there should also be an opportunity provided to indicate that you think the opposite.

Perhaps this is worth a petition?
Indeed. I agree that both the Starmer petition and the Brighton and Hove one are a complete and utter waste of time. There’s no official way of registering strong feelings against.
^ not joke.

Maybe they should use NSC polls instead

The Arsgas covered this daft petition last week.

The last survey of Hove residents took place THIRTY YEARS ago at which time 28% of those who expressed an opinion did not like the joined up names.

Yes, I can certainly see which way the wind blows on NSC opinion! Viewed from a distance, in faraway Gloucestershire, I can see both sides though - I know we are Brighton and Hove Albion, but when discussing the club I only ever refer to 'Brighton' or 'The Albion'. I've been an armchair fan for a long time now, but back in the day I don't recall any chants that included 'And Hove'!
TBH, The City of Brighton and Hove does sound a bit clunky (City of Liverpool and Croxteth anyone? Or City of Birmingham and Ladywood? No, didn't think so!) but, well, how can I put it? ... ... ... it is what it is, I suppose. I see there's only 37 signatures so far, so I guess there's nothing for anyone to get in a froth about anyway!
There most certainly have been:

We're Brighton & Hove Albion, we're top of the league (we never forget)

We're Brighton & Hove Albion, Brighton & Hove Albion FC <clap, clap> we're the greatest football team etc

The world has seen the glory of the coming of the lord. He plays for Brighton & Hove Albion and his name is Peter Ward

There must be more.

'We're Brighton, which includes Hove with its distinct identity, FC' ?

Apologies for not reading every post in the thread.

But has the OP suggested what would happen to the name of our football club?

Would we become BRIGHTON ALBION (FC)...? Bit too close to Burton Albion? Or just BRIGHTON CITY FC? :nono::nono:
Our hashtag would lose the H to become #BAFC (already taken) or #BFC (also taken), so #BTN? (same as the letter code for Brighton Station)
All the fans with BHA number plates would be forced to replace them.

Good luck finding your Albion :albion2: (if we are still called that) content on Social Media when it could be lost amongst posts for Burton Albion FC, Barnsley FC, Brighton Station and anyone just mentioning Brighton (the) City.

#BHAFC = Unique | As is the City

Brighton ‘n’ Hove Albion repeated to the Go West tune is another

On the other hand, maybe the OP is the guy tasked with singing ‘give us a B’, in which case his idea has some merit!

I know this is a comedy thread but I’m sure you know many years back before Brighton and Hove joined up to be a city……..I think you have wasted your time posting the above

It was probably a similar reaction in 97.
