My inner pessimist has supremacy and still reckons on a draw… simply because of the whole “we don’t win three on the hoof” thing.

If we can start banging out decent sequences of results then I’ll think about sending my inner pessimist on holiday.

I really wish we got rugby style refereeeing

that Stains twat that whinged for giving away a free kick against JP

Player: why ref
Ref: you pulled his shirt twice, then pushed him with open hands. . . WTF do you expect? . .

you've already been booked . . .once more, you're off. . . .

Love Rutter, Igor and Lamptey's intensity. Ayari playing well too. JP needs to contribute and stop slowing things down. Him and Georgino seem to be playing like inverted wingers at times.

Strange first half. Doesn't help that they're being allowed to foul us every 30 seconds but it's a scrappy one so far.
Not that strange !! Generally we are pretty average most games but somehow seem to win or draw all of them

I've heard that said about Mo Salah a couple of times in recent weeks and he still bagged three goals in those two games. Great players can be a ghost all match and appear out of nowhere to do their stuff. I'd give him a while longer before being tempted to hook him.

Exactly, I forgot Salah was playing when we played them at Anfield, then he curls one in to turn the game on its head

Decent first half, deserve to be winning. Could/should be doing better though.

Think we are purposely giving them more respect than they deserve to avoid a slip up. It's working - this lot are poor and we are winning, so far.

They never really look like scoring, despite the odd opportunity and numerous corners. We could have had 2 or 3 already.

Would like us to really turn on the style and annihilate them, but I can see us playing it safe and coasting to victory in the 2nd half.

We can't relax until we get a 2nd goal though. If we settle with 1-0 then they could nick something - it's the only chance they've got, really.

Surely the PL script isn't going to do the obvious and have us lose this despite 30 shots on target, 80% possession etc?!
I was going to say that one shot on target would be a start. Then we scored.

Still our only shot on target against a shaky defence and a 3rd or 4th choice keeper, though.

Need to put Saints away in the second half, or we know how this goes...

Lucky not to have conceded.
We should be 3 or 4 up - very unlucky Rutter hit the post, all three strikers have each failed to finish on several chances created but a good goal from Mitty.

Stains can look impressively scary when they all charge forward like a high school football team but they really don’t know what to do when they get to the 18 yard box. It’s all shirt pulling and frustration bluster from them.

Verbruggen hasn’t had to do a lot tbh.

They’ve had a couple of really good moments and they should’ve scored that chance from Archer, really poor miss.

Fernandes and Dibling both look excellent for them.

We need to up the intensity in the second half once again.

We should be out of sight really already.
Ref has been awful. If Beleba got two yellows last week, Downes should have 3 by now. Only worry is our full backs, particularly Pervis too high and no defensive cover.
But get a second, and I think the floodgates will open

Pedro had one just at the end there.

First time I’ve seen Atari and I’ve thought he’s looked decent. Defo something there
Him and Rutter been our best two players imo. He’s broken the lines several times and taken the ball well under pressure

Lamptey is doing really well. Southampton aren’t a bad team, you can see how they gave Liverpool a fright the other week.

Odd to see us not having the best of the possession, but we certainly look far more dangerous on the attack than they do. Would have been nice to have had the cushion of a second goal by H/T (and we deserved it on chances alone).
Saints still look pretty good, tbh, and an early second half goal for us would definitely help the nerves.
Mine, at least. :)
