I totally understand why people resort to conspiratorial thinking like this, but I think this is a situation where Occam's Razor comes in useful. Plenty of other clubs have complaints about Attwell, and I'm betting we're not the only board with a thread about him.

He's just really, really bad at this and shouldn't be reffing at this level for that reason.
Yeah this.

but that Spurs game was a different level of incompetence.

I'd add that I have now watched the red card incident back. The foul on Pedro just prior should have been a yellow, Baleba's foul definitely shouldn't so two decisions within 30 seconds. Surprise surprise Attwell went against Brighton on both. Funny how often that happens with him 🤔
In fairness to him, in that Spurs game, he (correctly) gave the Welbeck goal, which VAR (incorrectly) ruled out for an assumed handball by MacAllister.

Controversial opinion I know from me, but I'm not even sure it's really a foul, let alone a yellow.

Pedro does his usual 'make a meal of a challenge' (to be fair most/all players do these days) and the ref waves play on. Admittedly I've only seen the incident once on Match of the Day and I can't be bothered to watch it back to confirm or deny (!) but on first viewing it looked to me that it wasn't really a foul, Pedro made a meal.

Pedro’s antics border on embarrassing to be honest. He’s not going to get some decisions because of so much play acting.

As for Baleba, I didn’t think it was a foul either.

I see your point and it can be argued either way - the issue for me being, yet again, two contentious decisions in 30 seconds and, who'd have thunk it, Attwell comes down against us in both. Taken in isolation, it's just a decision which goes against us which happens, taken in context of this and other games it becomes a pattern.

So, again, I sympathise with the ref and go into my bunker. It's clearly the wrong decision and could have had an impact on the match. But, like it or not, these things happen and will always happen.
Great attitude - people make mistakes, luckily we still won so no real damage done and our next game is Southampton (not city who we needed baleba for )

Fair enough - sadly every team (well maybe not Citeh) have refs that their fans think are against them. It used to be Kevin f**king Friend for me, now Atwell after Spurs. Joke refs sadly

No. The nearby fans and players didn’t react. Cut the sound of the drama queen commentator and it was a nothing coming together.

The ref made the amateurish blunder of reacting to a player writhing in pain. Rather than instead seeing what actually happened. If in any doubt, don’t act.

Radio Sussex felt the fourth official was behind the error.
Or, and bear with me here, he could have given a straight red which VAR would have asked him to look at and would be appealable if he still thought it a foul.

Bournemouth manager reaction doesn't help at all. Carlos goes for it with his wrong foot but still not even a foul. Attwell not refereeing the match but his own ego/smaller clubs. He actually looked angry at Baleba's challenge rather than being circumspect. Onwards and upwards. Carlos fresh for 2 games in less than 4 days.

Ref's eyes deceived him there. He seems more focused on Beleba coming across him, but it looks like a slip from the Bournemouth player. There's minimal contact if any.

It's interesting how in live time it does look like a yellow card offence, but when it's viewed close up there is doubt about it being even a foul. From the angle he has, the referee has seen a clear foul because it looks that way. It's also interesting that Radio Sussex said the instruction came from the fourth official concerning the card.

So, again, I sympathise with the ref and go into my bunker. It's clearly the wrong decision and could have had an impact on the match. But, like it or not, these things happen and will always happen.

Dreadful referee, had another really poor game, but I’m being generous and putting it down to incompetence rather than malice

Referees make wrong decisions, it's part of the game. It doesn't make them a c****. And it's that sort of abuse that means there are less of them coming through. If you were called a c*** every time you made an error at work how would you respond ? I do suggest that if these things raise folk's blood pressure to the point of irrational outbursts then trainspotting may be a better pursuit.

Most of the errors supporters call refs out for actually aren't when viewed neutrally. Today it was an error. It happens.
I do and always reply "well thank you" i like to be polite and give positive vibes.
