Brighton v Villa is where it all started for me in and around 1972 when we both got promoted, Villa played at the Goldstone in yellow and blue if I remember correctly. I remember the excitement of the game in 1972/3 being all ticket, just made it seem really glamorous! Both my grandfathers supported Villa (my Dad Birmingham City) and we often had 3 way discussions about the respective teams in that era and it’s how I got into football in the first place. I still have my Football Champions book from 1972 and the old Wembley game from then showing Villa and Albion in the old 3rd division.

That said, I can’t say Villa Park is my favourite ground and although I’ve been there several times it’s not one I would rush back to. I suspect they will have to think what they do with it in the future - great history and all that, but despite the various rebuilds it’s not one of the top grounds in the country any more and only has room to expand behind the North Stand which may not be enough long term.
I was 16 and looked across the north stand to where a very big villa lad was appearing to 'offer me out' luckily for me he was looking through me at a big Brighton lad about 5 yards the other side.

Where are all the fans who say they can't get tickets to away games? i don't know how many we sold but at least 1250 tickets available and that's with two blocks closed. So probably sold a 1000?
Exactly this ,every game all over social media I hear the moans

How about one of those coaches? Seagull travel... I've used them few times when not driving myself.

I’m planning to go but can’t buy until Friday when it opens up to all STH. Surely they won’t reduce capacity before it reaches all STH, Albion+ members? As for travel I’m driving up and stopping over as I really like Brum and haven’t been there for ages. The coaches are good though, and well worth checking out. Seagull Travel and Bluesaway (cheaper) do a great job. Used them both a few times.

Just checked. Bluesaway is £49 for Villa.

why not use a coach , cheaper than a train.
Many thanks for your replies and suggestion, i have used coach travel to an Albion match before (Forest Green in the cup) but personally found it an uncomfortable experience so resolved that it would be, for me, a choice that i would only use if it was the only option for a game i was desperate not to miss.
This is purely a personal view and i appreciate that many fans regularly use coach travel and find it both convenient and financially viable.

Convenient definitely, financially good , simpler yes as you get delivered to the ground (no train switching) . Possibly reduces match day experience but as I go on my own pleased with Bluesaway as they make me feel welcome. Agree the comfort level could be better but the positives for me outweigh the cons.

It's not difficult to see why, shit time and shit day... poor facilities... no beer in top tier... next to no away friendly pubs for several miles in all directions....

No it’s fair comment. I’ve been on 3 or 4 coaches to the NW fixtures and I agree it can be uncomfortable. But I don’t always have much option. I’m afraid I never rely on trains to get me anywhere on time. And the sheer hassle of it all. A bus to the station, train to London, Tube across London, train up north, perhaps a bus at the other end. My head can’t handle it. I like the convenience of getting the coach from a place 5 mins walk from home and then not having to think about anything until we’re parked outside the Etihad or wherever. But it’s a very early start and yep it’s not pleasant sitting on a coach for 12+ hours in total in one day. I prefer to drive and stop over for a day or two, do a bit of sightseeing.

I'm going on a supporters coach for the first time in more than 40 years - I couldn't be doing with the expense of train and hotel. I've never been to Villa Park before - not sure why, as I've been to all the other midlands clubs - quite looking forward to this one (even though we've lost seven of the last ten away games I've been to)

I bought 3 tickets on day one in section P9, which has now been handed back to Villa, but I have no communication to tell me where our 3 have now been moved to.

It seems very early to have returned tickets?? They haven't even gone on sale to All STH yet, let alone general sale. Are you sure about this?

I agree it seems like an odd decision before they’ve gauged actual full demand. I can’t buy until tomorrow and I know another local couple in the same boat. Then there’s the Albion+ members to come.

Yep, we've got a friend and his son who are MyAlbion+ members over from Australia so there is a group of us waiting for this window to open so we can all get tickets together. There's absolute no need for the club or anyone to shit the bed yet.

To be fair to seagullwedgee he is probably basing his post on my earlier one about the closing of P9.
The fact that he has not been contacted by the club is a good sign that it is not yet an entirely done deal. They have prepared the ground by closing P9 to further sales and holding an amount of tickets in P10 but can presumably revisit the plan once all season ticket holders and Albion+ have had their window.

Love Villa Park, proper old school. Still to see us win there, hence the challenge.

Rail £42.00 with a railcard from Worthing. Premier Inn, Birmingham City Centre £42, an 8 minute walk from the Wellington. Coach £51 so £30 extra for a more leisurely experience and avoiding a 4am arrival home.
