To be fair, while I like Birmingham and think it's massively underrated, I'm not sure I'd hold that opinion if I'd only ever been there to go to Villa Park.
Sure - I was responding to a post that stated 'Horrible City', rather than specifically the area around Villa Park.

Actually, in all seriousness, there has been a spate of that in the city recently. Always good advice to park somewhere decent, especially on a match day when they know you are gone for a few hours.

Hotel prices are very reasonable in Birmingham just after Christmas. I’ve got into the Ibis (New Street) for £40 a night (normally over £80). It’s not luxury but perfectly respectable (in the middle of Chinatown etc). But do avoid the Ibis Budget on the main road, it’s ghastly.

Premier Inn, bed, a bog and a parking space. That’ll do

Every time I've gone, we have lost. However every time I've been either behind the goal (cup game) or Upper Tier in the league games. I have therefore made the ultimate sacrifice and bought a lower tier seat this time. Thank me later, and don't chuck stuff on me.

I know we rarely get anything from this fixture but have a soft spot for Villa as it was our very first away game in the top flight and very first top flight goal (Teddy Maybank).

Upper tier is worst away in the prem IMO. Borders on dangerous.

We stayed there for a night in the summer - it was pretty decent for a cheapish hotel
