It’s very telling that the only person that doesn’t think its annoying is the person that does it.
I suspect this thread has not enticed the people that do it forward for some reason!
Also, it depends what IT is. Incongruous noise, everyone hates. It's possible to to do it reasonably.
Also I think I've developed a solution for you so you don't have to move cafes when you happen upon it. It also might be good entertainment instead. When you hear a one side conversation, just imagine the other side is a person shouting 'YOU ARE A WANKER' at everything your antagonist says.
'Hi Steve, just checking in on the progress of the Philips account'
'YOU ARE A WANKER'
'Yeah that's what I thought but she's struggling with her workload'
'YOU ARE A TOTAL WANKER'
Etc.

I guess it’s just the world we live in now.
Even when it’s pointed out to people that they are disturbing others, they don’t care.
I suppose if they cared they wouldn’t do it in the first place.
As I’ve said before, the idiots won. The world was theirs for the taking and they took it .

I've been WFH full-time since 2020 and I very much agree with @The Clamp on this issue. I do go to coffee shops quite often, just to get out of the house for an hour or so. Sometimes I'll be responding to work messages on my phone but I would never join a call or Zoom meeting. If I do get a call from someone, I will leave the coffee shop and talk on my way home.
I even try and avoid making personal calls in a public space. I'm very self-aware and I just don't want my call to be heard by everyone around me. I don't understand people who seem to be on calls all of the time.
It's not everyone though. There are some people who find a quiet corner and can have a conversation without really disturbing anyone. I wouldn't have an issue with them. Unfortunately, the vast majority don't seem to give a shit about the people around them and put on their loud "meeting voice".
Selfish idiots seem to have taken over public spaces in the last few years. People just don't have any awareness of what is going on around them (or they don't care).

I think it’s a combination of the fallout of Covid lockdowns and people being deluded into thinking everywhere is a safe space for their behaviours.
Going to the cinema at any other time than a weekday afternoon or a Sunday evening is out of the question unless you want to have a film in the background while everyone chatters, scoffs food, and checks their phones.
Libraries are hit and miss.
I’ve no problem with children in there making a bit of noise or having story time etc but adults gassing away. Shhhhh!
I step outside to take all but the shortest of phone calls when I’m in cafes or a library. If a conversation is required, I go outside or move to an out of the way area.
I simply don’t get it. And it’s only going to get worse.
I'd never take a work call in a cafe.
TBH, I don't answer all of them when I'm sat in my office!

Cinemas are a nightmare.
I used to love seeing films in the cinema. There's nothing like it for a film nerd.
But I've been going less and less and less because people are just, or can be, absolute tossers.
I always wonder what it's like watching a film at the home of some of these people. Constantly nattering away. Ugh.
I've found going to my local cinema, the wonderful Worthing Dome, and waiting until the film is about to finish its run seems to be best for avoiding people. Never catch me at a film on opening night these days.

Yep, Worthing Dome is my local too. And I do exactly the same. Wait for the film to have had a run for at least a few days then go and watch it on an afternoon.

And I guarantee nobody else on that meeting wants to be on it.
The sort of twerp that would think it’s vital to have a meeting from a cafe is the sort of nitwit that everyone at the job wishes would f*** off.
I've had to take a call in a Pret once before. I was flying to The Netherlands and the partner we were using decided to set the preparation call up for three hours before my flight - which was from City airport. Since I couldn't hear them very well and since I couldn't say anything confidential I just said 'hello' to everyone, listened in and confirmed things with 'yes' or 'no'. To the two whole people who were in the back of the Pret during the 30 minute call I could have been listening to music for most of it for all they knew.
It's not something I ever do by choice but there are some circumstances when it's necessary. At that point just remember a) anyone could be listening and b) don't be the office twat.

Every time we go now I get really wound up by people talking / eating loudly and rustling bags etc. as soon as the film starts.
On Saturday we went to see Paddington for the missus' birthday at the Depot, thinking it would be better, as it was also a late(ish) showing. The girl next to me got out a whole deli full of food from her bag as soon as she sat down, incl. dips etc which stank, as well as constantly checking her phone - and a young group of lads along the row had a carrier bag each full of sweets and crisps which they were loudly tucking into. My wife had to stop me dragging one of them out by his feet as she didn't want any fuss....
Why cant people last 2hrs without having to noisily eat a ton of junk food?!
So, either "man on a work call" or "man who's literally gone insane".
Which, I guess, are arguably the same thing.
I can only speak for myself and one way or another its always pretty much the latter.

Or even better, the annoyed person in the cafe keeps shouting “you are a wanker” during silent moments from the cafe dweller carrying on his business in a public place
Or obsessively checking their phones (unless they are checking the Albion's score
)

I have recently flown to Spain.
On the way out, the 4 to 5 year old girl watching cartoons without headphones on her ipad annoyed the crap out of me as well as the Brummie women coughing her guts up.
Then, on the way back, I was sat amongst the Sheffield lads who were on their way back from Benni. They were even more annoying.
Don't go literally anywhere without noise cancelling headphones is my advice.
