Russia will be happy with that
That’s why Putin interfered, he paid the piper now he gets to call the tune

And if Trump gets cold feet he has useful idiots like Musk around to keep tabs

If anyone thinks Zelensky is going to accept ceding land whilst his cities are in ruins, with thousands dead from genocidal attacks from Russia, and agree to a deal on the basis suggested is hopefully going to be very disappointed.

If only we had more Zelenskys and less Putins and Trumps the world would be a much better place

Sounds like Putin the puppet master is already directing Trump on what to do.
Trump has promised to end the war in 24hrs once he takes up office.

All we really know is that he believes that HE is the puppet master and not Putin and that he will absolutely not be held accountable to this promise by those who voted for him.

There is no deal to be done unless Putin dies or Ukraine concedes vast quantities of land to Russia. This is going to be a massive mess.

Meanwhile, apparently Trump has an agenda against Iran so he could kick off there instead.

Trump has no idea of the intricacies of the Ukraine War, he wants a "quick win " for himself " for bragging rights. What will happen is that he will propose a trade off of Ukrainian territories for guarantees of non aggression from Russia. No agreement will be reached and so he will say along the lines of "I set up a deal that would end the conflict but, They did not want to do it so, it's all on them, I'm withdrawing all US funding for this costly war and they can sort it out themselves ".... Oh, and all this in 24 hours !

I'm getting mixed messages.

Events have overtaken me, but before I saw the report I posted at 10.45 am of the Russia-friendly peace deal seemingly proposed by Trump, I was going to write something rather different. But the detail contained in that post came across as genuine, and written by the Wall Street Journal, so it overshadowed all the other articles.

But now read excerpts from the other articles. This is why I'm hearing some odd mixed messages. Obviously we must be wary of briefings from Trump while he remains President-elect.

'A Trump presidency may not necessarily be the gift for Putin that Moscow thinks it is'
'Trump is no ally of Putin'
'Lets see' - Putin's verdict on Trump's win
'Excellent' phone call with Trump' - Zelensky.

But what I found most interesting, was the reaction of the propagandists on Russian state TV. They weren't hopeful that the sanctions would be removed. Instead, they were fearful that the sanctions would be increased...

I wonder if Trump's M.O. is to praise Putin in public, and chew his balls off in private?

All the above comes with the usual caveats - wishful thinking etc.

An interesting take on events from the ex head of MI6 on Times radio today is that we shouldn’t jump to conclusions about what Trump may or may not do. If Trump puts forward a peace deal and Putin doesn’t accept it, Trump might throw his weight behind Ukraine.

It has nothing to do with land. For Ukraine it's people and its existential right to exist.

Putin also isn't interested in fields, or villages, he wants all of Ukraine to destroy its nationhood and identity. That's why he commits genocide, that's why uses ethnic cleansing.

Ceding land isn't going to stop Putin, only force will make him stop.

This is an excellent, passionate piece from Silicon Bites (Bytes?). He lays into the US and other allies. "The 10% Ally"

If you've had trouble putting into words some of the anger you've felt over the past 2.5 years, this guy does it very well.

I think you misunderstand me. I am suggesting that Zelensky will not accept ceding land to Russia and that he will not be bartering with Russia.

I can't see that. When Trump was last president, Putin wouldn't have put up with it, and Putin's demeaner has never suggested he had any grief from Trump.

I think a lot of it is about Land to Putin. Yes he'd like to take the whole country and remove their identity, but the war hasn't gone as intended and I imagine he'd be pretty happy with half the land. Whether the people in that land leave/die/become Russian probably doesn't matter to him, the end result will be the same. The land would become Russian and the people in it would be Russian.

Ceding land isn't going to stop Putin, only force will make him stop.

Yes I agree that he wouldn't permanently stop, he'd want to take more if he could.

But it's all unthinkable to me. Unless Russia leaves, all sanctions should remain in place for eternity.
