The new series of 'A House through Time', which traces the history of WWII through the past residents of two blocks of flats in London and Berlin, is excellent.

Randomly scrolling iPlayer, I found a 1964 version of Hamlet with Christopher Plummer as the melancholy Dane. It's pretty decent with a good supporting cast of Robert Shaw as Claudius, Martin Clunes' dad as Polonius, Donald Sutherland as Fortinbras and, er, Michael Caine as Horatio. Shot at the genuine Elsinore, I'm enjoying it

Upcoming BBC One series Ludwig is described as a “comedy drama”.

David Mitchell stars as reclusive puzzle-setter, John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor who sees his life of solitude turned upside down when his identical twin brother, James, disappears without a trace. In a quest to track James down, Ludwig assumes his brother’s identity, but by taking over every aspect of James’s life, Ludwig is forced to confront his own. Unlike Ludwig, James is no hermit; he’s a family man and a highly respected DCI within Cambridge’s busy Major Investigations Team.

These are big shoes to fill for anyone, but for Ludwig playing dad to a ready-made family proves every bit as challenging as tackling the grisliest of crime scenes. However, Ludwig does have one big advantage – his ability to see the world in puzzle form. John may be a master of all things cryptic, but can he crack the biggest puzzle of his life?

Joining Mitchell in the ‘case-of-the-week’ series is Anna Maxwell Martin, as Lucy Betts-Taylor, John’s sister-in-law and wife of his missing brother James; Dipo Ola as DI Russell Carter, Gerran Howell as DC Simon Evans, Izuka Hoyle as DS Alice Finch, Dylan Hughes as Henry Betts-Taylor, Dorothy Atkinson as DCS Carol Shaw, Sophie Willan as Holly Pinder, and Ralph Ineson as Chief Constable Ziegler.

Guest stars in the series include national treasures Derek Jacobi and Felicity Kendal, Rose Ayling-Ellis, Karl Pilkington, Allan Mustafa, Paul Chahidi, and Hammed Animashaun.

The BBC has announced that Ludwig – one of the homegrown hits of the year – has been renewed for a second series.

The show follows John ‘Ludwig’ Taylor, whose identical twin brother James mysteriously vanishes. John takes on his brother’s identity to uncover the truth behind his disappearance. But there’s a twist: John has lived a quiet, uneventful life, designing puzzles and avoiding the outside world, while his brother is a high-flying DCI leading a major crimes team in Cambridge. Filling in for James leads to hilariously high stakes and serious crime-solving.

For the second series, David Mitchell returns as Ludwig, alongside Anna Maxwell Martin as Lucy Betts-Taylor, the wife of John’s missing brother James.

The BBC has acquired Australian crime drama Black Snow for BBC Four.

The six-part series stars Travis Fimmel, Jemmason Power, Talijah Blackman-Corowa, Eden Cassady, Seini Willett and Gulliver McGrath.

A small-town Australian high school gathers for the ceremonial opening of a time capsule buried by a class some 20 years ago, shortly after the murder of class member Isabelle Baker. Isabelle’s family and the police are shocked when the capsule is opened to reveal cryptic messages in Isabelle’s written statement.

These messages and other long-lost items suggest Isabelle had known she was in danger in the days leading to her murder. The case is re-opened causing heartache for the family and raising questions that certain people would rather not answer.
Black Snow – which aired on BBC Four last year here in the UK – is on its way back to the network apparently.

The six-part series stars Travis Fimmel, Jemmason Power, Talijah Blackman-Corowa, Eden Cassady, Seini Willett and Gulliver McGrath.

In series two, Fimmel reprises his role as Detective Cormack, with Jana McKinnon also set to star alongside Megan Smart, Alana Mansour, Dan Spielman, Victoria Haralabidou and Kat Stewart.

In the second season, cold case detective Cormack investigates Zoe Jacobs’ disappearance at her 21st birthday party in 2003, while simultaneously undertaking a desperate personal search for his younger brother, who went missing when they were children.

It’s due to air in its native Australia on Stan on 1st January 2025.

Not seen it but this looks interesting and has good reviews...

Documentary about former waiter Giancarlo Parretti who bought Hollywood's legendary MGM studios for $1.3 billion in 1990.
But within weeks, the next 007 movie is put on ice, pay cheques to Dustin Hoffman and Sylvester Stallone bounce, and hundreds of MGM staff are fired. Soon, Parretti is facing an FBI investigation for alleged financial irregularities, and Hollywood’s most famous studio spirals out of control.

Now, Parretti tells his side of the story for the first time, alongside Hollywood insiders and the federal prosecutors who brought him down, to reveal what really happened.
