Social media, particularly Twitter, is the worst for his.

Social media is so crucial for people’s careers, but they are so burdened by the possibility of one solitary tweet torpedoing their career and livelihood that it becomes one massive echo chamber.
Social media will destroy democratic society. Before it is too late, it needs to be totally shut down, highly regulated or just limited to photos of meals.

Their lives were not in danger, Kaba hadn't done anything wrong, he was being pursued by police so the situation was created by the police, he was unarmed so they presumed he may be armed. A car is not a lethal weapon. The only reason he would have been followed by armed officers is they suspected he had a gun, they don't pursue suspects because they think they might kill someone with their car.
Well that's words.

Words that have no anchoring in reality, but words nonetheless.

Lol.

Always the same false narrative isn't it? He loved his mum and helps old ladies across the road with their shopping. When in reality turns out they are weapons grade career violent criminals!
Plenty of people said the same about the Kray twins, guess somethings never change.

Sounds like he was a scumbag, although I struggle with the idea that people deserve to die for being such things.

That said, trying to run over the police, particularly if they have guns, does seem naive at best.
He was a scumbag, shot someone in a crowded nightclub and had also been charged for knife possession and carrying an imitation firearm.
He was also a member of a large dangerous gang.
Definitely deserved to die and no loss to society.

The point i'm making is there seems to be no distinction between whether the pursuit and use of firearms was due to the belief they thought he had a gun in his posession and would have used it - and the fact they felt his car was the leathal weapon. Seems like the car reason was brought into the equation only once they realised he was unarmed. Maybe justice would have been served with a manslaughter charge
Yet more crap.

Unfortunately the genie is out of the bottle on this one.

I wholeheartedly agree that there should be more regulation, and appointed Moderators should understand their important role on forums.

Elon Musk for example is an extreme example of someone with an important media outlet, who uses his political bias so strongly. Anyone who has strong leanings politically to the left, right or whatever, IMHO, is an unsuitable person to be a Moderator. I do wonder how he selects his Moderators on that forum.....? Is there any professionally recognised criteria required to be a Moderator for example on this forum ...?

I'd keep cute dog and cat videos but not the ones people add those horrific 'from the mind of the animal' quotes. Almost always an obese woman from Arkansas. 'Me name Toby. Me want food from hooman! Loll!' - those people should be sent to work in salt mines in Siberia.

'Hooman bin punished in work camp lol'

Point of order - the police were NOT aware that the driver was linked with 2 shootings. The car had been tagged as having been in the vicinity of a shooting incident (hence it being pulled over), but Kaba was not the owner of the car, and at the time of the shooting, they didn't know who he was.

Yes. Try listening to the news on the radio.
A bit tricky as I live in France, but I do of course have access to the internet....

I shall look now and thankyou for the heads up.

Absolutely shocking.

Edit; I have read about it now. The Met at times has been its own worst enemy, but right now, I agree that thanks to the CPS and the Judge allowing the Officer to be named, his age and rank given, has made London a much less safer place to live. Who would really still want to be a Firearms Officer...????

I've just invited @Randy McNob back onto the Tuchel thread in part to give all the rest of NSC a break from his alternate reality viewpoints here.

It's like arguing with a malfuctioning AI text generating bot that can't perceive life outside what it's programmed to do and won't install an upgrade.

But he's far less of an issue there than than here purely on topic matter. Hopefully the interesting and useful discussion can continue as before.

If I said what I really think about that poster re the unsubstantiated inferences he’s making I‘d be banned…..still he seems to have a friend here

statement made yesterday by Khan…..sympathies to his friends, i wonder of what character they are

“I understand the impact Chris Kaba’s death has had on London’s communities and the anger, pain and fear it has caused. I send my heartfelt sympathies to Chris Kaba’s family, friends and the wider community once again.

“There’s clearly still a wider lack of trust in the police, particularly within the Black community, that needs to be addressed. As Mayor, I will continue to work with the Government to support and hold the Metropolitan Police to account to ensure any lessons are learnt and the Met commands the trust of all Londoners as we build a safer London for everyone.”
He really is an odious little ****, absolute no thought of his officer at all.

I actually think he’s gutted the officer was found not guilty. Khans won’t have a legacy over this double term so will try to own the reforming the of Met but forgetting he is top of the reporting line and void of any responsibility in the delivery.

Another case of weak opposition affects play.

The judge:

"If NX121 is named, there is a risk that some may seek to obtain more details about him and to make threats to him or his family.
“However, in my judgment the naming the defendant or in giving his date of birth does not give rise to a real and immediate risk to his life.
“In contrast, in my judgment the lifting of all aspects of his identity might give rise to such risks, and so the order of this court will not permit the address of the defendant to be given in court.
“Secondly, the order will continue to prohibit any photographs, drawing, image or detailed description to be reported for the same reason as the address.”

I just cannot get my head round that. Name and DOB made public, but it'll all be ok, because his address won't be disclosed, and no pics.

He's a judge. Not surprised he has no connection with common sense or the realities of life in the real world if it's not laid down in the law.

No winners in this mess. Ideally it would have been possible to non-fatally wound Mr Kaba, but in the heat of a fast-moving situation officers don’t necessarily get time to think about it.

If no shot had been fired, and one or more officers were killed or seriously injured, there would be questions as to why if we had armed police on the scene no shot was fired.

If we expect the police to walk into dangerous situations, with risk to their lives, they need to be able to defend themselves.

I always believe good policing should leave a defendant able to answer questions at the end of the arrest process. Lethal force should always be the very last resort. Having said that, if it comes down to Mr Kaba dead, or one or more police officers who are sticking their necks on the line to try and police our capital city dead, then Mr Kaba needed to calm the f*** down and comply with what the police were asking him to do. He put the police in a situation where they had a split-second decision to make. Nobody’s won here.
